Here's hoping that's true.

Sets (w/flat rate shipping)
Battlestar Galactica S1 AU$31.66 + AU$9.50 s/h = US$37.80 (Note 1)
Harry Potter S1-S5 AU$45.40 + AU$20 s/h = US$60.00 (Note 2)
Star Trek TOS S1 AU$90.75 + AU$20 s/h = US$101.70 (Note 3)

These sets have their own shipping rates and are NOT counted when computing shipping for individual titles.

Set Notes:
(1) The Aussie BSG HD release does not include the S1 mini-series. The best domestic price for BSG S1 HD with the mini-series is US$69.85. Is the miniseries worth the extra US$32? ... your call.
(2) The Harry Potter S1-S5 HD "set" is for the movies only. This is not the same as the HP Gift Set. The best domestic price for the HP Gift Set is currently US$71.49 (free shipping) at Amazon. Are bookmarks and a cool box worth an extra US$11?
(3) This is available cheaper from Amazon (US$96.95) right now.

Regarding The Star Trek TOS set, it is even cheaper at roddenberry.com, $94.95. See link below,

http://www.roddenberry.com/?action=s...9051&cid=11487

On a side note they are going to go ahead and release the remastered versions of seasons 2 and 3 on standard DVD on August 5th. Originally it was going to be just season 2 but I recently heard they will release both seasons 2 and 3 on that date. Below is a link to one of the articles regarding this.

Hasting's Sale

I was in Hastings the day before last and they had a section of brand new HD DVDs for $9.95, and another section for $16.99. The $9.95 had all three Fast and the Furious, Apollo 13, the Bourne movies and a bunch of others.

The $9.95 titles were on an endcap inside the video department and the $16.99 titles were by the front registers in a dump-bin and on an impulse shelf.

Canadians check your best buys. Today they started dropping the HD prices to < $10. Same titles that Walmart dropped.

sbelli 03-28-08 04:02 PM

I went into WalMart today and decided to drop by the HD DVD area to see if they had marked down the few remaining titles they had. To my surprise, they actually got in MORE HD DVDs.

"American Gangster" which was marked down to $17 was completely sold out a week ago (even asked about it) had been restocked...as well as Michael Clayton and a few others. AG was still $17, but most other clearance titles actually went back up. Michael Clayton was back up to $29.xx (yes, I scanned it), which sucked because I would have bit if it was still at the clearance $17.

Very odd for them to get more HD DVDs in while places like Best Buy are shipping the ones they have back. And then jacking the prices back up on most of them. The selection still sucked but at least there were more of some of the recent titles.

Ditto for HMV online and in-store. Pan's Labyrinth is $6.99, plus many others have had price decreases.

Default shipping for this clearance sale is the slowest possible option. I got a shipping notice on the 11th and my wife informs me that the package arrived today.

This completely debunks Bill Hunt's rumor that Seasons 2 and 3 had both been cancelled, because Toshiba was funding the restoration process and Paramount wouldn't continue without their money.

I think Bill just mis-interpreted Toshiba's involvement in the whole Star Trek: TOS re-masters, just like people on AVS and most other blogs and news groups.

Toshiba pulled the funding for the HD DVD encoding and disc production.

Paramount had been paying to the re-masters themselves since day one.

Ye, he should have known better, but...

I can't seem to find it again (I'll keep looking) but there was an article that mentioned they had all of the re-mastering done for season 2 and they were 90% done with season 3, all they were really working on was the HD bonus features (Starfleet Access) and a short featurette in HD, and since they were originally going to release season 2 in mid-March I imagine all they are doing is working on the re-design of the standard DVD packaging and pressing the discs. With the original HD DVD release date so close for season 2 it makes me wonder if they had already pressed some in HD.

VAMPYRE XX 03-28-08 06:07 PM

I have the ST season 1 HD-DVD set and was hoping they would release the other 2. I guess it won't happen, but maybe a blu-ray release of season 2 and 3 isn't unimaginable?
Can it happen?

I got mine in about 9 days. Seems yours took about 2x as long, for whatever reason.

I checked, and it seems like they do not. Althought I could be wrong. I really want Pan's Labyrinth.

edstein 03-29-08 12:09 AM

My BB is now empty. They filled in BDs in the section were the HD-DVDs were. Oh well, I'll try CC on Sunday.

Well, once again, he had a 50% chance of being right. Heee-heee.

Looks like international shipping is almost $5.00 per disk for EzyDVD.com HD clearance. I don't know if it would be worth it or not...

insanecollector 03-29-08 12:00 PM

South Austin CC has taken down their HD DVDs. No fun with the sale for me tomorrow.

Gizmo 03-29-08 12:04 PM

My local CC condensed all the HD DVD into a small section...no more then 100 or so titles. Not even worth a look for the few movies I still want (Arctic Tale, Things We lost in the Fire). Oh well. Looks like my HD DVD days are over.

JimRochester 03-29-08 01:52 PM

Stopped by one of the local CC this morning and picked up a couple Harry Potters, Poseidon and Scorpion King. Checked with customer service and can price match tomorrow. I'm kind of in a quandry, I hate to just do a ton of upgrading. I have a hundred or more DVDs I haven't seen yet and I'm upgrading movies like Poseidon. It should look good in Hi Def but the movie itself is so marginal I'll probably watch it once and never see it again.
