I had the same idea and swung by a Best Buy earlier today. The guy at the customer service desk said that if I brought the Circuit City ad in next week, they'd refund me 50% of my total. I even clarified that it was 50% off what I was paying, not the original prices, and he said yes. I'm sure it'll end up being a big YMMV with headaches for some that try it, but it's worth a shot. I grabbed about 15 movies and will be taking them in Sunday to see what happens.

it's hard to say, but i would think they would have to honor the price match policy. they will probably have to call Circuit City to find out the sticker price of the movies you're trying to price match, since the CC ad just says 50% off. sounds like more hassle than it's worth, unless you know your Circuit City doesn't have the titles that you want in stock.

OK, I have a $100 GC to CC that I got free through my credit card rewards. Full balance is paid off each month so it is truly free by using CC in lieu of cash.

Anyway, we went by CC this morning and I asked a group of workers standing around the register if they price match on HD DVD movies if they go on sale next week. They all nodded and answered yes. One lady said that they will price match up to 30 days if the HD movie goes on sale.

Picked up the following for $24.99 each.
Blood Diamond
Casino
Perfect Storm
Borne Supremacy----------Really want this film
Unforgiven
Apollo 13
The Last Samurai

Total was $186.xx.
Will price match next Sunday morning and if denied, then will return all movies for a full refund.

Are you thinking you can get the movies now for the current 30% off and then get BB to price match an additional 50% off next week with a CC add? That sounds shaky.

My Blockbuster finally pulled all of their HD-DVDs off the rental shelf and put them up for sale $15 each, 2 for $20. Included new releases like The Brave One, Hot Rod, a few others...

You should have them PM their own website first...most if not all of those titles are listed for less...then go back on Sunday and ask for 50% off of that total.

I asked the customer service guy how they'd do the price match and he said they'd just refund me 50% of the total. I'm thinking the 30% off prices are just listed as regular prices in their system now. My receipt doesn't show any discount and a couple titles rang up with discounts greater than 30% off the price tag. They're all titles I'd be willing to buy at 50% off the listed price, so no skin off my back if that's all they'll match, but they definitely said it'd be 50% off what I paid today.

What happens to all these discs once they're sent back? Are they going into a landfill or can we find cheap liquidation prices in the future?

Lucky. I'm checking the one near me virtually every day, and they still have a majority of them up for rental. They've had the same crappy ones for sale for a few weeks now.

No $#!+ . I got my Enchanted from Amazon today (yes, I know that it's a BD) and it had a $29.99 Best Buy sticker on it!

Went to BB today to try and get a deal before they yank them. They wouldn't budge from the 30% off. Too bad, they have a whole aisle worth of stuff, too.

I was at Best Buy today. They were pretty picked over. I almost picked up a couple titles but walked out without them. I came home and could order the same things just a bit cheaper from Amazon with no tax. There was one title that hasn't dropped yet but I really like the movie (The Kingdom) so I grabbed that at $19, the others were around $10. $52 for 4 titles.

Well, this is good news. I feel better we don't have these titles being destroyed. I was hoping DeepDiscount and Amazon would get them.

Went to CC and got a complete refund. Then bought all the movie back pricematch to their website. I will PM again this Sunday.

Anyway, went to Best Buy and bought Apocalypto using $5 off coupon which made it $14.99 on Blu Ray. I ask about HD DVDs and a manager in plain clothes with a name tag said that all HD DVDs were going back soon. He also said 30% was all they could do.

Oh well, their loss not mine!

Thank You!

I need to thank you all. First, I made a killing at Hollywood. Now, today, I got Best Buy to honor the CC ad that I printed from this board. They took 50% off of the 30% off prices! YMMV for sure. Around 2pm, a manager told me that they could only match individual prices, not a broad 50% off sale. I went back around 7pm when my buddy was working. He had to get mgr approval, but it was a different mgr and they gave the ok! The highlight for me was getting Ultimate Matrix for $31.50. Thanks again to everyone.

i don't think there is any confirmation of what will happen with the returned stock. they could just as easily be recycled.

I know that, supposedly, Best Buy is getting rid of their stock of HD today.

But I just noticed they dropped the price of a few more movies...

Feast - $9.99
The 40 Year Old Virgin - $10.49
King of California $12.99

I feel the same way. The studios could as just as easily destroy existing HD-DVD copies of their titles and take the loss, thinking they'll recover it when consumers buy their eventual Blu-Ray counterparts (seeing as there's no longer any competition.)

It would be nice if they'd sell them back to online or clearance-type retailers (like BigLots) but it's not guaranteed.

Of course, if people are already buying titles from Amazon now and getting discs with BB stickers on the case, perhaps that what will happen. (Here's hoping.)

Although I am checking prices on HD dvds daily, I think we all need to really get a hold of ourselves ;p Most of these movies will likely be released on Blu-Ray at some point, and I believe that all blu-ray prices will eventually drop, anyway.. including the players, as more companies pick up manufacturing them. Dual-format players will also probably be around for quite a while, and by the time your player dies and you need to find a way to play your HD films, there will be some kind of solution...probably.

My personal feeling on the twilight of HD DVD is that I will buy the films only if I find really great prices, or really great films (and hopefully a combo of both).. I'm not certain I count $15 a great price, though certainly I have bought quite a few HD films these past few weeks.

Anyways, just because Bestbuy is pulling their stuff and possibly using them as repackaged coasters instead of Amazon selling them, is no reason for us to go out and buy the films ;p I feel that unless a particular HD film is really cheap, or has something that trounces the BD version, there's no need to panic ;p So far, the only HD vs BD comparison where I feel the HD is a must buy was 300, for the special features and the neat PiP thing... thankfully, that came with my HD player so I don't need to buy it @_@

I'm in the same boat as you all, I"m sure.. there are things I want to buy (Slither, Forbidden Planet, Stardust, other things) that are still hovering at around $20...but I dunno if I would jump on them at WorstBuy just coz they're clearing their shelves.

If there is a definite way to utilise that CircuitCity ad to get firesale prices, that might be worth it maybe...

Has anyone been getting shipping notices from ezydvd.com.au? My order from 2/26 has five of the six titles showing as "Special Price - available to ship", but the sixth (Heroes S1 HD) is "No Longer Available".

Don't know whether to delete that one item from the order and let them ship the rest, or whether I should wait.... ezydvd showed both Heroes S1 HD and BSG S1 HD as "No Longer Available" at one time, but they came back in stock. With the AU$20 shipping surcharge, Heroes will cost me AU$47.12 (GST removed), or approx US$43. Best domestic price is US$70 at DD. Tough call....
