Maybe they are trying to distance themselves from the Horror Empire Blue Underground Blu-Ray Disaster.

Between the generally uninspired slate this year and the continuing reliance on sub-par Italian transfers, I'm seriously getting close to writing BU off altogether. Synapse has definitely surpassed them as the go-to label for quality genre releases. BU needs to take a break from their current one-dimensional obsession with Italian films (and their accompanying manipulated transfers) and give us the previously-promised Larry Cohen titles already.

I'll get to that one this week, looking forward to it. Blue Underground's future seems in question based upon the choices they've made as far as release announcements are concerned. Repackaging of old material does not inspire confidence.

Adam, your comment in the Django Kill... review here really summed up my general feelings towards BU's efforts in 2012:
Seriously, will it ever end?
Of course, with Blue Underground seemingly refusing to release anything but Italian movies transferred by LVR in Italy and with all these titles looking pretty much exactly the same on Blu-ray, the smart money says you already know what you're getting into. Here's hoping one day they'll do something a little different so I don't have to keep saying the same thing in the same way in one of my reviews down the road.

I asked Synapse about Hands of the Ripper, Hammer House of Horror, Countess Dracula, McBain, and the Basket Case sequels:
TWINS and HAMMER HOUSE will be released this year. Working on the others for early next year.

Agreed. The series was spectacular, and deserves a Blu release. Also, the series was already released to DVD back in 2003 (?), so how will purchasing this re-release benefit me? Was the old set cut? Seem to recall the old set was from a PAL D1 master. It still looked pretty decent, though. Will the new set be from the proper 24 fps 16mm prints, without PAL artifacts and speedup issues? If this can be confirmed, then I would gladly purchase it after all.

Very cool: I sold my copy of Thou Shalt Not Kill..Except on Amazon to Scott Spiegel and asked, if he were THE Scott Spiegel, if he wouldn't mind autographing my Intruder cover. Not only did he do so, but he also sent me a couple of other goodies:

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray
What the hell? How is it that directors aren't getting free copies of their own damn movies from the label? Tom Savini mentioned something on Facebook about hoping he is able to get one of the 3,000 copies of the Night of the Living Dead 90 blu-ray that Twilight Time is putting out. Shit, Spiegel even contributed to the extras on Intruder...you'd think Don May Jr would send him a copy.
