Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

JVC XV-BP11 DVD/Blu-Ray player; hacked for DVD all regions (only Region A for blu-ray). Brand new and selling for exactly what I paid for it - $259 (delivery to lower 48-states included in that price). I can accept check, credit card or PayPal.

I did a side-by-side comparison with the Oppo and picture quality was the same to my eyes. The Oppo, however, has a few extra features that have decided me on keeping that one instead of this JVC.

The upconvert for standard DVD's is stunning (far better than my previous DVD player). With this machine there's no need to replace your existing DVD library.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. I love the player, but that was my only nitpick with it.

Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

Anyone know anything about the Insignia WBRDVD (WiFi, Netflix)? The ad I saw had it for $129.99 starting tomorrow. Do you know who OEMs it or if it's a clone of anything else? How has the compatibility with discs been?

With those features and this price it is compelling, but I'd certainly be more comfortable with a Sony player for compatibility reasons. To go Sony though I'd have to get the basic 360 player near that price point.

It's an excellent player. I got 2 of the non-WiFi versions. Plays all BD discs we've put in it (not many to be honest), Divx, Avi, MKV etc. Might grab one for $130.

I've been holding out for a good deal on an LG BD390, but this Insignia player is very tempting. Unfortunately there aren't alot of reviews to be found. Most of the feedback on the Best Buy website focuses on the Netflix wifi streaming, which is important to know, but I'd like to hear more about the a/v quality during BD play. Also, I'm wondering how conscientious an off-brand like Insignia is going to be about regular firmware updates.

According to the BB site, you can get the Star Trek BD for $4.99 when you purchase this player. It's not clear however if that offer will still be good when the sale price takes effect on 11/22.

Straker,

Wow, didn't know about that Trek deal. I hope it's still good tomorrow as I'll buy it and just return my Amazon copy or regift the Trek BD.

Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

One thing I'm curious about regarding the Insignia WBRDVD is the range of the Wi-Fi. My biggest disappointment with the BD390 is that it doesn't register a strong signal unless the router is in the same room or on the same floor, but that kind of defeats the purpose. I'm running with a Linksys N router and both of my laptops pick up an almost perfect signal no matter where they are; they get the maximum number of bars. I s'pose I could pick one up and try it out, but I really hate returning things.

The Best Buy website now reflects the sale price but the Star Trek offer appears to have been discontinued.

Still undecided on this model.

Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

Wow, the Wi-Fi range on the Insignia leaves a lot to be desired. From my screwing around, you need to have a signal that the BD player rates as 'Excellent' to get a decent Netflix experience. Otherwise, the quality is poor and there are relatively frequent re-buffers. Right now I have the thing bridged with my laptop, but that somewhat defeats the purpose of the Wi-Fi. But, for $129.99, what can one expect?

Re: Blu-ray Disc Player Thread

If you have an Amazon Chase Visa card linked to your Amazon account you can get $50 off a bunch of Blu-ray players using code CHASEBLR. The LG BD370 & BD390, Panasonic BD60, and Sony S360 and S460 all work with this deal. Just got the Sony S360 for $86.84. Saw this posted at blu-ray.com.

Picked up the BD370 and I'll be returning my recently-purchased Insignia. Amazon truly is the tops; I can't believe the deals I've been getting with them lately.

HOW is that LG BD270? I am about to pull the trigger on a Blu-Ray player for my bedroom.

...to play on on a 32" 720p Westinghouse.

J&R will have the Sony S360 for $120 on Friday. But the deal isn't as good as it looks because of a shipping charge: $14 to my zip.

Amazon has matched the $99.99 price for the LG 270:
