Hey, The Rock is already on HD DVD -- "Doom", "The Rundown", "The Mummy Returns" . . .

I picked it up last night at Worst Buy(the one on I-10 for anyone else who lives in Houston). It looks and sounds terrific. The transfer is very grainy, but I much prefer that over it being DNR'd to death.

The PCM track is 16-bit and it has all the extras from the Criterion DVD including the audio commentary.

It has the Criterion extras? SCORE!

Definitely grabbing this one now. I still remember buying the Criterion disc at The Wiz (!!!!) for $33.

Good to hear it has the commentary. In the UK they released it on BD and said on the back of the box it came with the commentary and it didn't. I still have the Criterion version (will never get rid of that! christ! I still have the Criterion laserdisc of it).
The PQ for this is quite nice, just some pixelation on scenes that show the sky but I LOVE the sound on the BD. That end explosion and the rocket launch are just too sweet!

I am totally buying this up on the 8th. I thought it was just a transfer of the old dvd release back in 99. I'm glad it's got special features so that's a buy right there. The rock is one of those great action flicks of the 90's.

No sale if it has a crappy blue swoosh on the cover.

Seriously, I'm down for Con Air and the Rock on the 8th. Has anybody seen any reviews for either film?

I have both. I posted my thoughts on The Rock above.

As for Con Air, I thought it looked even better than The Rock, but I haven't watched it all the way through yet so I might've missed the edge enhancement some people have complained about. The PCM track is only 16-bit however, despite the packaging indicating 24-bit.

We just got the rock and con air in at work, they have a $10 mail in rebate if you own the previous dvds. Sounds good to me.

Is that $10 for each individual title as in each Blu ray has a form for that title?

If so this could work nicely with the $20 off 3 titles at Best Buy.

Con air and the rock each had a sticker on it saying it has a $10 mail in rebate(per movie) if you own the previous dvd editions. I never owned the rock on dvd, but I am definately using that on con air.

Both of these are at Amazon for $19.99 each. After the rebates (I have both on DVD) that comes out to $9.99 each, as good as a BOGO.

Do the rebate forms have any restrictions on them?

Also, do any of you know of other Blu-ays that have/will have a rebate like this?

Can the previous DVD be the Criterion version? I strongly doubt that.

How do you verify you own the dvd's? I already traded Con Air in, so I'm probably out of luck there.
