as to what the majority wants or doesn't want, here's all i know for sure: enough people are interested in PiP that the BDA decided to develop the technology and studios have decided to utilize it in some releases. others don't care about it at all.

German distibutor Constantin will be going Blu-Ray exclusive as of March. RE: Extinction will be their last HD-DVD release as per Grubert.

How different this might all be without the PS3.
It will be a riot to se how they reconcile themselves when MS releases a BD player for Xbox.

Had HD DVD won, would we see as many people who are clearly just fanboys for their videogame system of choice flaming and baiting as we see now? Maybe, but I think that the presence of BD turns every PS3 fanboy into a BD fanboy as well (preemptively saying that I don't think all PS3 owners are fanboys nor all BD supporters) who will support any BD-positive nugget of info. The X-Box/HD DVD intersection was there, but I don't think it would have been as bad.

am not saying that the topic is not worthy of discussion. The Blu brigade that is invading every conversation here, and we all know EXACTLY who the five or six fuckwads are, are just getting on my last nerve.
They are not contributing anything except trying to throw salted alcohol on the wound and watch. Then there is the closeminded "BD is right 1000000000% of the time" poster. Real discussion is off-tracked again and again and again and again.

Is the personal attack above lobbed by QGJ allowed here? Seems a lot more out of line than anything else I've seen here lately.

Stolen from AVS:
Here is a very interesting comment from Maxpower (Blu-ray insider) regarding PS3 DTS HD-MA support from the insider thread from question from bchalmers:

When I say political, is this a way for the BDA to allow CEs like Panasonic and Pioneer to differentiate their SA players?
Do you know if Fox has weighed in on the issue, considering the fact that the majority of BR owners cannot fully benefit from the features they are including on their releases?
Thanks,

Well you are along the right lines with it being political in nature.
Profile 1.1 was not given to the PS3 until at least one standalone player was on the market with it, DTS-MA will be no different.
So it appears that internal decoding of DTS HD-MA to PCM is coming but Sony won't update until a standalone player is on the market. This makes alot of sense, in that Sony doesn't want to screw any CE over by bringing a Blu-ray feature to PS3 first. Of course, as most of you know, bitstreaming is out of the question due to hardware limitations. I think the new BD-50 from Panny (announces at CES) will most likely be the first BR player to market with internal decoding. Don't look for DTS HD-MA support from PS3 until then.

Fox Home Entertainment has announced that they will release the Arnold Schwarzenegger classics 'Predator' and 'Commando' to Blu-ray on April 15th. Both releases will be encoded in 1080p MPEG-2 and accompanied by DTS-HD MA audio. Full extras have yet to be officially announced, but expect only the minimal.

I was going to say I knew there was a reason I was holding off on picking up Predator on DVD, but I forgot that I actually have the original DTS single-disc release. But I'll be happy to upgrade to the Blu-Ray for the improved A/V quality and to ditch those ugly menus from the original DTS release!
