Because HD-DVDs are lower than Blu-rays everyday of the year. These sales are great. But overall, I'll take Universal HD-DVDs at $19.95 instead of $27.95 Fox Blu-rays.

If you can find me day and date Universal titles for 19.99, you would the freaking man. Right now, Fox is the only BD studio that prices their catalog titles at 27.95. I don't agree with it one bit so therefore I wait till I can get a good deal on it as in now.

I just can't stand people whining about buying titles as if someone forced them to buy it at 27.95.

I think all of Universal's new releases are combo discs hence the higher price.

Negative spin? Why purchase a $30 movie when its $15 2-3 weeks later? Seems pretty stupid. I will not be buying a single Blu-ray new release because it just appears half off 2-3 weeks later...makes sense to me and many others apparently who are doing the same thing.

If you want to compare the 1 day only $99 A2 to this...fine. I'll just compare every single Blu-ray player that has dropped $200-$600 permanently.

To be fair, they used the same business model back in their neutral days as well.
Disturbia was their last Day and Date netural title IIRC. Shooter was a week or two before that and both HD/BR were the same prices.

I have a very strong interest in The Fly and slightly less in the 28 Days movies but here in NJ there is zilch Fry's and the only place I've seen the former is Borders for full MSRP. Any ideas for how to get these at that price (their site has no dice) such as a private transaction? I could possibly give it to someone to give it to me as a Christmas gift I already know about.

But I'm sure if hd-dvd were to have a similar sale, it would be great and all fine and dandy for you right?

If The Fly is still available on Tuesday I'll grab it for you for cost + shipping.

There is a Blu-ray BOGO sale so often there is no reason to buy Blu-ray movies at full price anymore. A one time HD DVD sale would be great, yes. If they start doing it every 2-3 weeks like the BDA, I simply won't purchase any new titles until the eventual BOGO, just like Blu-ray. Its not THAT hard of a concept to follow.

Anyway you look at it, even you have to agree that you're per movie cost average is going to be cheaper with Blu-ray than it is with hd-dvd.

For me personally, it doesn't bother me one bit how much I paid for the movie because that is the price you pay for wanting to get something first.

Because I buy them at BOGO? Sure. But as soon as I finish watching them 9/10 get re-sold, usually for a profit (ebay buyers ). I rarely keep any of these BOGO titles and have a backlog of 20 movies I need to watch and re-sell. Out of the 4 Fox movies I bought Friday at Fry's I will only be keeping The Fly. The other 3 will be resold right away. My Blu-ray collection is bloated right now.

Hit the Austin Frys. No Aliens VS Predator No kingdom Of Heaven.

Picked up Dracula, House Of Flying Daggers, Memoirs Of A Geisha, and Curse Of The Golden Flower.

Super nice HDM aisle. All the movies are facing forwards so you can see the covers. Both sides stretch almost the length of the aisle, and Blu Ray is slightly longer.

Talked to a guy who was about to take his HD A30 back to Circuit City based on that slight difference of length in the Blu side of the aisle. I talked him out of it with 4 Blu Ray movies in my hand. Told him he would probably end up wanting both.

I hit the same Austin store as well, still hunting for Kingdom of Heaven and 28 Days/Weeks later. The copies of Dracula did NOT have the slip cover, just the BD case.

Was at the Fremont Fry's today and they had boxes upon boxes of the sale Blu-Rays. Seemed like they were well-stocked with all the sale titles. I was shocked to see a few Blu-Rays with an everyday price of $9.99 (Underworld, Hellboy, a couple of others). 'Course they had boxes upon boxes of a few titles on UMD too.

Yeah, what was up with the $9.99 stickered Blu-rays? I also picked up Hellboy and Underworld (which did have the $9.99 sticker on it now).

This appears to be the way they handle BOGO. I have seen the before.

My guess is they are either unwilling or unable to program their POS system to actually check for the presence of two items to apply the discount, so they just mark them all half price.

My Fry's actually has 13.99 shelf tags out for all the Fox titles.

But isn't it a pain to keep on relabelling these BDs for when they are now on sale?

These sales happen way to often. I'm shocked they actually re-labeled all the movies, but I'm sure they do it because they think they will sell out of all of them and no need to re-label them back to their original price. Or to deter people from buying at the BOGO price and returning later at the "full price".
