Gizmo, at this point, does it matter why we're not getting it? It's not coming out in America. If you want, you can import it from Australia. There will be a double dip, I'm sure. And according to the reviews, the "unrated" aspect is so small as to make no difference, anyway. Let it go.

I would consider the "fire sale" comments regarding HD DVD to me as a thread de-railer. The comments were not needed at all and were simply thread crapping bait. As per Die Hard, it was a legitimate question which we still don't know the real answer to. Even the Fox reps couldn't tell a Moderator here as to the real reason as why there is no unrated on Blu-ray. As I stated above, I take TDB with a grain of salt regarding "news" as they claimed several times over that Fox would be "back" with new releases and every time they were proven wrong.

If you have a problem with my posts report them to a moderator. I can't recall an instance where I have had a post edited my a mod for attack purposes nor any just removed. I don't attack certain people out of spite and I should have every right to ask why a certain cut of film is not available on Blu-ray without getting attacked by several BD only posters about my "motive". Feel free to take a look through my 100+ HD format collection. Blu-ray is about 40-45% of my total amount of movies and growing each and every week. Just because I lean towards HD DVD for many reasons, I shouldn't have to post only happy shiny comments here. Ive posted many negative ones regarding HD DVD as well and will continue to if they make stupid moves like not releasing any movies between January and March and having a lackluster Holiday lineup.

Just for clarity's sake:

Is there a link somewhere that confirms the Australian Die Hard 4 BD will be the unrated cut?

The EzyDVD site is not explicit about that IMO.

(1) We do not and cannot read every post in every thread. The majority of the mod actions are results of reports to moderators. When something is reported, then I generally go through the entire thread to get a better picture (if it's a 50 page thread, then I'll read at least 5-6 pages).

(2) I agree that all the negative commentary can be distracting, and they certainly derail discussions. Far too many of you are guilty of this.

The mods have been discussing this behind the scenes. Next time we go through another one of these, all involved parties will be suspended. If you're not capable of an objective, civilized HD discussion, then I suggest you refrain from posting in this thread or the entire HD Talk Forum.

Just to note, the suspension warning applies to the entire HD Forum, not just this thread. Any fracas like the one we saw earlier will result in immediate suspensions.

Alrightey, now that we got that out of the way, anyone know what is going on with Independence Day on Blu-ray? We are still two weeks away from release and yet no previews or any kind of news. Should we fear the worst and assume it's been delayed?

Gizmo 11-19-07 08:20 PM

So I just watched The Fly for the first time in 12-13 years...pretty decent movie. Now here is my question...The Fly II...any good? I've seen the double disc of The Fly I/II for $5-6 and curious to see if its worth the purchase.

Supermallet 11-20-07 04:31 AM

The Fly II is a B monster movie with some fun creature and gore effects. Nowhere near the level of the first one, but not bad.

Not really definitive but the Classifications Office shows a classification specifically for Blu-ray which shows it as the revised version.

See here for the DVD version

See here for the Blu-ray version

See here for the film version.

Obviously the timing for the Blu-ray version is probably incorrect but the fact that the Blu-ray version is revised MIGHT indicate that it is the extended cut.

I just got an email from Amazon saying the availability on this title has changed. On their website, the release date of 12/4 has been removed.

Damn, I was really looking forward to this title. What are you doing Fox?

Drexl 11-20-07 09:30 AM

Well, since the other titles were apparently removed for a Father's Day sale, perhaps this one was moved for - wait for it... an Independence Day sale!

Why was Amityville Horror, a Halloween movie, delayed until April for marketing reasons? Is their going to be a "Amityville Horror : Easter Egg Haunt" movie coming out? Odd to delay a horror movie in the month of October, lol.

I read some user reviews on IMDB....I'll pass on it for now. I saw Sideshow Collectibles is making statues of both Fly's and the "MartinFly" looks freakin awesome.

I read on another site that the vendor moretonbayblu-ray.com said they checked with several distributors and Fox's dealer website and they say there is no delay. I don't know anything about the reliability of that vendor so take the info for what it's worth.

matome 11-20-07 02:28 PM

Yeah, you can't go by Amazon or AVS. The same was said for Rescue Dawn when they took it off their website, yet people already had already received the disc and lo and behold the Rescue Dawn BD is suddenly back and listed at Amazon as In Stock today.

Thanks for the confirmation and I did see the same info from moretonbay as well. Looks like I'm still keeping my preorder then.

I just read the very positive review of Die Hard 4 at HD Digest. One disappointing thing to find out is the extras are in SD.

I expect that on a catalog title, but a day & date blockbuster? Fox's packaging always claims they go "Beyond High Definition". So where's the HD extras?

I was at Frys today around lunch time and they had 8-10 copies of Die Hard 1, 2 and 3. They had at least 40 copies of Live Free and 0 copies of the box set. Maybe they sold out or their was a shipping problem? Anyone nab this at Frys?

Zen Peckinpah 11-20-07 11:15 PM

Just ordered Die Hard and Die Hard 2 BD, will get With a Vengeance soon.

I was not at Fry's, but the set was scarce elsewhere. Didn't see it at all at Circuit City, Target or the DDD B&M store. Best Buy had like 2 copies of the set only.

Amazon just shipped mine last night, so it does seem like it shipped late from distributors.

Qui Gon Jim 11-21-07 08:37 AM

Good news on Predator. Commando is a guilty pleasure. I have never seen Butch Cassidy, but it is something I definitely want to check out.

Keep the title announcements rolling!
