New Line has announced an early June high-def debut for the Will Ferrell comedy 'Semi Pro,' which will hit Blu-ray as an unrated two-disc special edition.

Failing to generate the same box office excitement of Ferrell's recent sports-themed comedies, 'Semi Pro' only scored a meager $30 million domestic gross. New Line will give the Kent Alterman-directed satire another pass on Blu-ray June 3, day-and-date with the standard DVD.

New Line has not released supplement details yet for the Blu-ray, dubbed the "Let's Get Sweaty Edition," but with two full discs to fill we expect plenty of bonus features.

Tech specs include a never-before-seen Unrated cut of the film presented in 1080p video and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 7.1 Surround audio. Watch for full specs to be announced soon.

Retail for the Blu-ray has been set at $35.99.

Ugh with the stupid tag name.

mdc3000 03-24-08 04:21 PM

Semi Pro should have been the 'Suck Me Sexy' edition if you ask me.

Or how about the "This Was a Box Office Disappointment and the Laughs Felt Contrived and Forced" Edition?;)

Haven't seen it, but I also haven't heard very good things about it. Shame, too, because those Bud Light commercials were hysterical.

From TDB...

Last week we updated you on some of Fox and MGM's upcoming Blu-ray release plans for later in 2008. Now, Buena Vista Home Entertainment has just sent over its updated Blu-ray Disc release schedule for the next few months. As you know, Hidalgo, M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable and the Coyote Ugly: Double Shot Edition street on 4/1. The theatrical version of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is tentatively due on 5/13 (the street date may change slightly). The National Treasure: Collector's Edition and National Treasure: Book of Secrets both follow on 5/20. June will see the Blu-ray release of The Recruit and M. Night Shyamalan's Signs, both on 6/3. Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York is now confirmed for Blu-ray release on 7/1. And Sleeping Beauty is currently set for 10/7. Additionally, the straight-to-video sequel Tinkerbell is due in October as well. Obviously, a number of new theatrical films will also be released on Blu-ray Disc in 2008. But here's a few new titles for you: Studio sources have confirmed that a Nixon: Election Year Edition and Good Will Hunting are both on the way for later in 2008. We've also learned that Kill Bill 1 & 2 and Finding Nemo are now being planned for release in 2009 on the format.

cartman 03-24-08 05:37 PM

I thought Finding Nemo was supposed to come out this year. ARGH!

Mr. Cinema 03-24-08 05:38 PM

Awesome news about Gangs of New York, Nixon, and Good Will Hunting. Sucks that Finding Nemo is now an '09 release.

bunkaroo 03-24-08 05:49 PM

Not surprised about Kill Bill for 2009 as the UK pre-orders have been pushed back to the end of the year.

Definitely getting GONY and GWH. Not sure if I need to see Nixon again.

Mr. Cinema 03-24-08 05:58 PM

I thought Disney said last year that Nemo would be an '08 release. I hope it's a typo. That is a movie that would definitely benefit the holiday sales season and they can tie it in with Wall-E. Just like the Cars/Ratatouille combo last year.

I thought they were delaying them so they could release them in both countries at the same time. I thought maybe someone there wondered why the UK was getting Pulp Fiction and KB while the US gets Coyote Ugly and Hidalgo.

So, if Finding Nemo isn't coming this fall, will a different Pixar title be released (besides Wall-E)? I was hoping we'd get one catalog title each year. I'd take any of the others, though I'd prefer Monsters Inc. or The Incredibles over A Bug's Life.

They were originally eyeing a November '08 release, I believe.

FWIW, though, this is the tenth anniversary of A Bug's Life, and I know the movie was being retouched last year with a Blu-ray release in mind. That might be a likely candidate.

I was thinking the "Yes, Woody Harrelson Stole an Anton Chigurh Wig from the No Country Set for This Movie" edition, but oh well.

Good news about Gangs and Good Will Hunting. Almost guaranteed the former will be uninterrupted!

Kill Bill would be great, but where's Pulp Fiction?

PopcornTreeCt 03-24-08 08:36 PM

That sucks I won't buy any of those films. Except Sleeping Beauty. *sigh what a crappy year this is shaping up to be.

Gizmo 03-24-08 09:08 PM

That won't be all of their releases. More are coming, at least from Disney.

Dane Marvin 03-24-08 09:56 PM

Very happy about Gangs of New York and Good Will Hunting. Two instant purchases for me. I'll even be picking up Semi-Pro. But will New Line announce Be Kind Rewind, which was released several weeks before Semi-Pro, for Blu-ray? I sincerely hope so.

I'm just going to wait for the box set already. I'm sure we'll see a few releases of X-men from Fox.

Fox is probably waiting to cross-promote when the inevitable DVD re-releases hit for the the theatrical release of Wolverine.

Nixon: The Election Year Edition? Gag. Why ruin such a great film with such a stupid tag.

rexinnih 03-25-08 08:44 AM

Gangs, Nemo, Good Will and Kill Bill for me!

I hope the transfer for Gangs of New York is much better than the UK release. I heard it was atrocious.
