Looks like I might have at least one vendor still shipping this to me. I put in orders at a few different vendors today to see what sticks.

So it looks like there's a 99% chance that they'll still be releasing this set bare-bones.

An HD-DVD Jack Ryan set that sounded awesome to begin with now sounds decidedly less so. These are just the type of movies (i.e. action) that should be awesome on HD-DVD, WITH all of the extras included.

Considering some of the crappy films that have been released on HD-DVD already, I have had high hopes for this boxset.

Well, since I reviewed this set over the past week...if Paramount releases the current version bare-bones, I can let everyone know the video quality is only so-so for an HD DVD release. Pretty much the same look that Top Gun had...not a lot of "pop" and still some visible grain and dirt on the print in various scenes. The Sum of All Fears actually looked WORSE than the others. Clear And Present Danger was somewhat darker than it should have been. Patriot Games was (IMO) the best of the four, and Red October was solid, overall. But all were "average" for HD DVD...nothing that made you go "wow".

Looks like the Jack Ryan situation is going from bad to worse.

I've seen all but SOAF on HD broadcasts. I'd agree that CAPD didn't look quite as good as I'd expect. However, the recently broadcast HFRO on HDnet looks pretty go for a 20 year film IMO.

I guess I'll just wave to Jack Ryan as he sails on by. Doesn't look like I'll drop the cash on this when they seem to have dropped the ball.

Not too much to add, but Home Media Retailing has an article about this:
Paramount's 'Jack Ryan' Set Recalled

Originally slated for an Oct. 23 street date, Paramount Home Entertainment has recalled The Jack Ryan Collection HD DVD four-disc, four-movie set because none of the discs include the special features advertised on the box art.

In a letter to retailers, Paramount says the packaging “inadvertently notes special features that are not on the HD DVD. As a result, this product is being recalled and street date is being delayed.”

It’s unknown whether the eventual release will include HD DVD features or if the existing discs will be repackaged.

The Jack Ryan Collection features four movies based on the Tom Clancy character: The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears

Whatever happened to quality control?
Gee, how long could it have taken them to pop in a disc and see if the special features advertised on the box where actually on the discs?
(I know, I know... Different departments. Whatever)
