Jack Ryan HD DVD Set - Cancelled?

Got a notice today from DVDEmpire cancelling Jack Ryan HD DVD from my order (and it's no longer on their site). This only a few days after they dumped Master and Commander Blu Ray from my order. And ironically, I was using Jack Ryan HD to replace my cancelled order from Face/Off and Top Gun Blu Rays. It seems I can't win with them!

This is the first I heard of anything along the lines of Jack Ryan being cancelled. DVDEmpire ususally seems accurate, but are their correct here?

For what it's worth, DVD Talk has received review copies of Paramount's titles fairly far into the future, but this is the only one we're missing.

Take it with a grain of salt, but on this past Sunday's Parade on the celebrity gossip section, the columnist states that there is another Jack Ryan novel in the works. I'm a great fan of the novels, so any hope of a new Jack Ryan adventure would be great.

I've been passing up the opportunity to record the HDnet Hunt For Red October because of this set. Guess it's time to record it after all.

As of today its still showing as being available from my distributors, but if it changes i'll pass it on. Big bummer if they delay it, as i'm really looking forward to most of these.

The only good thing that could come out of this is Paramount opting for separate releases instead.

Don't really need Sum of All fears myself.

Looks like Paramount is taking a hint from Fox on how to play the exclusive studio role.

Someone made an entry mistake and removed the HD DVD accidently from our system. Unfortunately, we didn't catch the error until after our system cancelled prebooks and notified customers.

That being said, I'm happy to inform everyone that this title WILL be coming out on HD DVD and we'll have it back online shortly (before the end of today).

We're in the process of informing those prebook customers that the title is once again available.

On behalf of DVD Empire, I apologize for the error.

For a minute there I thought this was going to be a bigger debacle from Paramount than The Sum of All Fears

FYE has it for about $53 at pre-order (after $10 rebate). Not good w/ PayPal deal, but a nice price.

Major Warning about this set, friends:

Although the box covers still list all the bonus features, all four movies are totally DEVOID of bonus material...no commentaries, no featurettes...just an audio set-up and chapter selection.

I've (and other sites as well) contacted Paramount - the first reply said that only screener copies sent out to reviewers were like this and were checking the retail copies - but several other sites have reported that retailers have checked their copies and found the same problem.

So if you're looking to buy this set for the bonus material - be forewarned!

The Dolby TrueHD tracks ARE on all four movies, along with Dolby Digital Plus - but otherwise these discs look just like TOP GUN in terms of menus (none, just a pull-up on the bottom of the screen) and extras.

Crap, there must have been some regime change over there that dictates the holding back of extras.

They can go ahead and cancel as far as I am concerned if they are dropping the extras.

What do the backs of the individual cases say? Just curious... no big deal to me either way, I'll probably just throw the box away.

Ahh crap, looks like I'll be holding out too. I hope this doesn't become a trend for Paramount.
