^I posted that in the general BD thread, but I forgot there was already a thread about this.

Thanks for the info. I wish I would have known about the fix before sending in for the rebate movies.

I'll be in for a swap on this. I wouldn't call this the "crown jewel" release of Blu-Ray either.

Good job Disney. They have done a great job supporting BD. Very consistent for the most part.

Good news. I've held off buying this disc because of this problem.

Am I the only one who WON'T be going through the hassle of replacing mine? Of course, I never replaced my BTTF trilogy either.

Nope, you're not alone, I never noticed it so I won't be wasting time at the post office either.

Definitely will get mine replaced, although I don't consider this one quite as serious as the BTTF2/3 issue.

I called the number and they took my information. However, they did not say they were shipping discs yet. They just said they will contact me when they decide how to handle it. Not sure what that means - YMMV.

So does this mean of the POTC CotBC Blu-Rays in the store still have the framing problem? I've been waiting to buy all 3 until this is corrected. In fact, where is the box set already?

It took months for anyone to actually notice it, so its not THAT big of a deal. I'm not going to send my disc in for replacement for a few second of mis framed footage.

You don't have to. Right now it appears they are just sending the replacement disc once you call and verify you own the disc. Quick and painless call.

Check the AVS thread on the same topic for more info.

OH! I thought you would have to spend your own money and mail it in then wait 2-10 weeks for a replacement (like Fifth Element which I just sold for $13 and bought a new Remastered version for $10). If its that easy I will go ahead and do it.

I filled out the online form that was suggested by a rep for Buena Vista on the hometheaterforum.com forums two days ago. They emailed me this morning asking for my mailing information and said that as soon as they had the mailing information, the updated one would be on its way. Obviously I haven't gotten the disc yet, but how fast Disney replied to my inquiry, and the initiative they have taken to correct this for fans really impresses me with their commitment to not only customer service but to the adopters of Blu-Ray. Baring any unforseen circumstances with the disc not arriving, kudos to Disney.

I bought POTC:CotBP on Blu-ray when it first came out, but I recently picked it up again during Future Shop's "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" Blu-ray sale. I wanted to pick up Apocalypto in hi-def, so I got that with it, then returned the unopened copy I'd originally bought to Best Buy, so that got me Apocalypto for free. Anyways - it's still unopened, so I wonder if I should just return it and try to get a new copy (would the ones in stores at the moment be fixed?) or if I should just contact Disney.

Thanks for posting this, TC. I would've never noticed.

How many seconds are we talking about here? I don't even remeber anything looking unusual when I first got it.

Agreed. Hat's off to Disney, IMO far & away the #1 HDM company out there, and not just for stuff like this (or the superb PQ & AQ after BD50s became available). All the other outfits appear to be just 'going through the motions' compared to them... I really love the enthusiasm they show for the format.

So, how do you tell you got the fixed one w/o watching the movie? i read about this while back, but i didn't even know Disney actually addressing the issue considering the magnitude of the "problem."

I got mines from the BOGO sale as well, so that means i got the corrected version?

I think once you give them the info on the inner ring of the disc that they will be able to determine if you need a replacement. I haven't seen posted anywhere what part of that info IDs the bad copy.

I would like to find out how to identify a "defective" one too. Just this week, I received POTC: COTBL via the Bluraysavings.com 5 Free via mail in. Need to know if I need to go through the effort or not.

That replacement process was about as painless as any that I've gone through over the years.
