There are Paramount titles in June and July. Untouchables, Coming to America, etc.

Then I rephrase: hopefully there are more Paramount titles coming (though I guess I'm grateful to get anything from them at all).

The problem with most of the "good" titles on this list is that they're also being released on Blu-ray on the same day (other than the Matrix movies):

Dog Day Afternoon
Payback
A Scanner Darkly
Dreamgirls
The Road Warrior
The Fountain
Flags of our Fathers
The Untouchables
The Warriors

The only non-Blu-ray movie on that list that I'm interested in (other than the Matrix, which is coming to Blu-ray later) is Sneakers. Meanwhile, over the same time span, Blu-ray will be releasing both POTC movies, Cars, Donnie Brasco, Revenge, Apocalypto, Basic Instinct, Crimson Tide, Hellboy, and The Rock (and those are just the ones I'M interested in).

Looks like Letters will be a HD DVD combo disc from Warners. I'll get the cheaper BD version.

Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima are getting packaged together in a DVD boxed set. Those wanting them in a set might want to hold off on pre-ordering them, at least until we know whether they get HD sets or not.

It's being released overseas on HD DVD in June. The unconfirmed rumor is that it's being delayed stateside to allow for a similarly full-featured Blu-ray release at the same time, but whether or not there's any truth to that or if it's just FUD, I have no idea.

Total HD. "Second half of 2007" is as specific as Warner has gotten -- no specific dates or titles have been mentioned, as far as I know. Since the Total HD discs are apparently only going to have a single layer on the BD side at first, I don't know if they'd want to do this for Blood Diamond or not.

I don't think Warner will come through with TotalHD. I hope they don't at least. Anyway, I heard Blood Diamond is being released in hi-def sometime in May. In other news, Warner has announced Letters from Iwo Jima for May 22nd (perfect, right along with Flags) for HD and BD. HD DVD will be a combo with Dolby TrueHD, SRP $39.99 while the Blu-ray will be a 50 GB dual layer with Uncompressed PCM, SRP $34.99.

Glad that Letters and Flags are coming on the same day...I'll be picking up the Blu-ray versions of both because I don't need the combos.

Universal will release the $35 million-grossing critical hit as an HD DVD/DVD combo. Tech specs include a 1080p/VC-1 transfer and Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 surround track (at 1.5mpbs).

Among the nice assortment of extras are an audio commentary, two making-of featurettes, an segment focusing on the real-life case from 'Dateline NBC,' and 18 minutes of deleted and alternate scenes.

maybe it was because the print I saw there was absolutely little to no surround sound (a standard 35mm non-digital sound print - AMC Mazza Galleria you suck) but 'Breach' came across as a 'quiet' (intense) film. The sold out crowd (including me) were rivetted to this film.

From dvdtimes.co.uk -

Warner Home Video have announced the US Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD release of The Fountain for 15th May 2007. The third film by Darren Aronofsky, director of Pi and Requiem For A Dream, is a fantasy about man's fear of death and his dream of eternal life. Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz star.

Released as a 30GB/9GB HD DVD Combo ($39.99 SRP) and a single-layer 25GB Blu-ray Disc ($34.99 SRP) the film is presented in 1080P 1.78:1 Widescreen with English and French audio (DD5.1 Surround on Blu-ray, DDP5.1 Surround on HD DVD) with English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles. Extras carried over from the DVD release is “Inside The Fountain: Death and Rebirth” a gallery of 6 featurettes exploring the movie's various periods and settings.

Additional extras which appear to be exclusive to the high-def releases include The Interview, VFX Step by Step, Inside the Director’s Mind: Scene to Storyboard Comparison, Peter Parks Bonus – Macro Photography Loop and the Theatrical Trailer.

I don't blind buy often, but The Fountain definitely qualifies. I've been a big fan of Aronofsky's other work... and given what I've read about the struggles to get this movie made, the "making-of" material should be facinating as well.

Front and back covers (for the BD at least) are at the Man Room:

I wonder if the decision to go BD25 is what kept lossless audio off both formats??

It didn't stop them from doing it with Happy Feet, so probably not.

DVDEmpire just listed the Cruel Intentions and Seven Years in Tibet Blu-Rays for 6/12.

Ah, true....I forgot about that one. It probably comes down to money and how much they want to spend on a release. I guess the Fountain wasnt a huge title, so they didnt care to spend the money.
