Props to Paramount for going all out on those $40 titles. If only Fox could learn something from this.

Can't wait for Coming to America. All new HD extras? I think Paramount is quickly becoming the HD king of studios. Now if they would only pick up their release schedule...

Paramount always seems to get more negative comments than they deserve. New Line gets a free pass, even though they have 0 titles announced. Paramount titles have been pretty consistant. I love that they push for those 2-disc sets on day & date titles. Dedicating 1 disc for the movie and 1 for the HD extras. Transformers should be loaded when it's released as well and most certainly has potential to be a top demo.

Provided Lion's Gate gives it a respectable transfer, I'll pick up Basically It-Stinks.

I still haven't opened my Special Edition with Ice Pick pen DVD yet, so I'll probably pass.

It's a guilty pleasure of mine. I have the same Ice Pick SE. But the transfer isn't very good, so I'm looking forward to upgrading it.

So maybe we'll finally see 16:9 transfers for Weeds instead of the way LG fucked it up on DVD.

Definitely getting Basic Instinct-glad I waited for the domestic release.

I CANNOT wait for Coming to America and Trading Places....

$20 for Weeds isn't too bad either. I know it's a short season, but it's still nice.

Looks like we will be getting 16:9 transfers with 6.1 DTS-HD and a pretty nice package. From DavisDVD:

Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release Weeds: Season One on May 29th. The Showtime series arrives in a previously unreleased widescreen presentation in 1080p and 6.1 DTS HD Audio. Bonus materials will include sic commentary tracks with cast & crew, "Smoke and Mirrors" Original Marijuana Mockumentary, "Smokey Snippets," Showtime Original Content including a special on suburbia, Agrestic Herbal Recipes and the "More Than A Friend" Music Video by All Too Much. Retail is $29.99.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray debut of Basic Instinct for May 29th. The Michael Douglas/Sharon Stone thriller arrives with a 1080P widescreen transfer of the unrated director's cut backed with Dolby Digital 5.1 EX and DTS HD audio. Bonus materials ported over from the previous DVD issues include an audio commentary with Paul Verhoeven and Jan De Bont, a second commentary with author Camille Paglia, "Blonde Poison: The Making of Basic Instinct" and "Cleaning Up Basic Instinct" featurettes, Storyboard Comparisons, original screen tests and the trailer. Retail is $29.99.

Damn! Nice job Lion's Gate. I would've liked lossless audio on Basically It-Stinks, but DTS-HD will still be a nice upgrade over the DD 5.1 track on the R1 SD-DVD. Plus it looks like they're porting over all the extras which is a rarity for them. Now I can sell off my old copy(so long Ice Pick pen ).

Is Weeds any good? I've only caught a few minutes on Showtime. At that low a price, it might be worth a blind buy.

Now gimme L.A. Story in HD, Lion's Gate.

for basic instinct. I'll definitely be picking that one up. Looks like all the extras are there, too.

My old version had DTS anyway

Did you import the R2 version? The PAL speedup would've driven me nutz. Which is why I never got the HD-DVD release.

R3. It was 2 discs on SD-DVD and had a DTS track.

I never imported the HD DVD. Same reason. The speed-up.

I am definitely thinking about getting T2, though, if the speed-up isn't there. I'd much rather get that for better quality and spend the extra money.

At $20 that would be an excellent Blind Buy. I netflixed it, but will probably grab this to see it in HD.

I also love "Weeds". I have only rented the first season on DVD, but the transfer was so bad I decided not to buy it. I am very happy to see it will be coming out on Blu-ray. Now if only they would do the same thing for Brotherhood, that would be awesome.

Apparently the question you should be asking is, "What is IMDB?".

Coming To America, Trading Places, Dream Girls, Mission Impossible 1 & 2 (solo releases) have been added at DVDEmpire for both BD and HD-DVD.

Enter The Dragon and The Dirty Dozen for Blu-Ray have also been added.

Very happy to see The Fountain officially announced for 5/15 on both HD and BD. As usual, I'll be avoiding the $5 extra combo and going with the BD.

Has it been? I haven't seen a press release on the usual sites.
