Never worked for me.

I'm all about equal treatment on this forum.

If I get warnings for every little criticism and harsh wording, I'm going to make sure I'm not the only one.

The HD DVD version is not as good as the BD version in some aspects.

Too late!

All of those reasons are cosmetic and financially related.

The content is essentially the same.

Exactly! Why should I buy the HD DVD then?

Unfortunately, however I respond to that will get me "warned" even though it's completely harmless.

The bottom line is that I'm spending my money where I think it's DESERVED.

Its a double standard to say that the lower cost is not a reason to choose the BD version in this case.

This argument is used readily for hardware ($1000 bluray players versus less expensive $500 hd-dvd players). Movies should be no different.

Having to pay more for something that essentially is the same content is ridiculous.

There's no reason to buy the HD DVD if you're format neutral. Unless you like the combos and are willing to pay extra to have that option.

I guess you have to pick and choose your battles. Spend a little more now to show your support and have a better option in the end.

BD is probably preparing their press release right now.

Fuck!

Having two formats is ridiculous and three will be fucking insane...and I'm really starting to hate it right about now.

Yep.

I agree. This whole format war completely sucks.

That's an even bigger waste of money. I'm not going to spend an additional $10 per title either. I'll just continue to rent titles until WB/NL get their heads out of their asses.

See? everyone has their own threshold of what's appropriate. That's really what this format war is about. The general public is pretty much staying away. Then there are the people on one side or the other. Then there are people who are both but selective. And a very small minority that will buy anything.

It's all about personal choices...and that's not enough for people to really buy into this.

I can't wait until it's over.

Amen Digi.

Although, you'd be angry at me to hear that I'm leaning towards BD at this point.

I'm not angry at all. It's your money. I could care less what you do with it.

I just still don't see any reason to support it.

I've already told myself I'm not going to pull the trigger on BD until there are at least 15 titles that I can see worth owning on it. That means that they all have exceptional quality and ALL extras from SD DVD. I think there are 2 at this point.

I was seriously going to pull the trigger for a while there...but I think it was because I was just bored.

MOD NOTE: So I read through all 5 pages in this thread and ... I'm gonna leave things as is. I think you (digi) understand what Arpeggi meant in the original "shitty" post. I when I read that, but as candyrocket786 already mentioned:
I think what he is saying is that Combos=Shit

The content is not necessarily considered "shit", but just the fact that it is a "Combo" automatically associates it with "shit" because of the inconveniences that come with a "Combo" (Price/Flipper/Fingerprints)

The same thing is going to happen with that "Total HD" shit.
Not that we're embracing the notion that Combos=Shit or that TotalHD=Shit, but that it's somewhat less offensive than HD DVD=Shit or BD=Shit. By leaving this alone, does that make me pro-BD?

On the flip side, I left this post in the HD DVD discussion thread alone as well. Comments like that are something we frown upon, but given the context, I thought maybe we can let that slide. Am I now pro-HD DVD?

Or am I just a shitty TrueHD?

I was under the impression that calling anything "shit" was frowned upon.

I'm still trying to get a handle on the rules, I guess.

Perhaps we're all supposed to be shiny happy people holding hands.

For some reason, that song always goes through my head when Namja posts.

i think i finally understand why

Sorry if that other comment ruffled feathers. I tried to restate the same point earlier in this discussion, as it's just been an observation I've made over these past months. A deciding factor for me, too, as it's that perceived attitude which highly influenced my decision to support HD-DVD.

The way I see it, there's nothing perfect, there's always something bad or "shitty" about everything. I never said HD DVD was shit, I said "shittier" meaning worse than the other version.

Personally ... I'm in favor of hardware that can supprort multiple formats (the more the merrier). Of course, I wouldn't want the manufacturers to cut corners just to support more formats. Yes, the word cripple comes to mind. As for the media, I don't like any combos or flippers. The flipper DVDs with movie on one side and extras on the other side irked me; I much preferred the contents on two discs than having one flipper disc.

More on topic, I don't care about the audio all that much. I don't mean to say that I don't care about audio at all; just that TrueHD or PCM or DD or DD+ or DD+++++ all sound really good to me. Sure, if I listened to a side-by-side comparison, then I may be able to tell the difference, but that difference is negligible to my ears.

Anyhoo, I guess this is good news for a lot of BD folks?

Yes, it's good news. I would have picked up the HD DVD if BD didn't have lossless audio.
