I did some searching for similar phrasing to this (i.e. "no plans to support HD DVD"). I came up with two articles from 2005 with the same phrases, but nothing newer than 12/05.
We'll see what they say publicly in Jan. Of course, I don't expect Sony or Fox to go neutral. I'm just saying I'd read more into public statements than the "insider" info we see posted around.
The last bit of "insider" info Bill Hunt had caused the flurry of rumors that the Samsung couldn't play BD50s.

Granted I'm new to this whole HD craze--just got the 360 HD DVD add-on.
But I don't understand...why can't studios support both Blue Ray AND HD-DVD? Wouldn't that in turn equal more sales?
I'd love an explanation on how this whole thing is working.

Because I've gotten no sense that he's "anti-HD" (or anti-DVD, for that matter). Jaws came out with a pretty spiffy DVD only 3 years after the launch of the format. That's pretty quick.
Plus, while Jaws or Jurassic would be great, don't forget that Universal also has a few "minor" Spielbergs in their catalog: Duel, The Sugarland Express, 1941, Always. I wouldn't rule any of those out.
And I also wouldn't be surprised to see something like Jaws (although I think E.T. is unlikely and Jurassic will probably wait until '08 for the theatrical release of part 4).

Your point is definitely taken -- Spielberg titles weren't used to launch the format. But they also didn't hold back for too long. I'm not sure I'd rule out a title or two from him in 2007.
