What the hell is going on with my Cablevision?

I was unsure as to what section to post this so please move it if necessary. First off, I am using BASIC cable (cablevision). No box, no cable card. I have a 42" Panny plasma EDTV with the optical cable running from the output of my Tv into my 5.1 reciver. Anyway, I was flipping through channels this evening, and noticed that I have about 4 NBC's...one of them broadcasted in HD! DD 5.1, anamorphic widescreen... How is this even possible with no cable box or cable card? My TV DOES NOT have a built in HD tuner either. They were broadcasting Conan O'Brien when I noticed this and dont even care for this show, but ended up wathcing the entire show because I was blown away by the audio/video quality...keep in mind i only have an EDTV.

It has to have a built in tuner other wise how would you be getting any channels without a cable box?

Are you sure? Does it say QAM anywhere in the tuner info? That should pick up any digital stations that are on the cable line.
