Of course with both formats not even making up 1% of DVD sales its kind of pointless to worry about the numbers too much.

I love how the argument changes from week to week regarding the PS3. One week, the HDDVD people are saying that PS3 should not be expected to increase disc sales much. The next week, when BD is destroying HDDVD in disc sales, the argument is: well they have 20x more players so the sales lead should be way more.

Make up your mind peope!

Actually, I think the two arguments work hand-in-hand. Allow me to illustrate:
IF the PS3 should not be expected to increase disc sales much, AND, by counting the PS3 as a BD player, the ratio of disc sales to player sales is still remarkably less for Blu-ray than it is for HD DVD, THEN, the PS3 has not helped to increase disc sales much.

Only because of the lack of HD DVD releases from Dec-March.
I think Digital Bits even said more Departeds were sold for Blu Ray. Couldn't even find the HD DVD in Best Buy. That had to hurt sales.

Would it be completely out of line to question the journalistic integrity of an article which only gives space to quotes from Blu-ray pushers? Did they even try to get the HD DVD perspective?
In the spirit of the news itself, I would even settle for the HD DVD side only receiving 30% of an opportunity to retort!

Articles like this always seem very biased.
1) They never mention that HD DVD had zero new releases for a three week period in March, when Casino Royale was released.
2) Comparing The Departed disc sales does not seem real fair when the HD DVD is a combo and priced about $5 more than the Blu-ray version.
3) How many stand alone players were sold in the quarter? I have a strong feeling HD DVD easily outsold Blu-ray in that category.

My main problem with these articles is that they are trying to make HD DVD sound like it is completely dead, when that is far from the truth. The general public is already confused and uneducated enough.

Those who think this war is over or close are fooling themselves. Things could change on a dime.

So if anyone can provide a number for BD, it would be appreciated.
I believe that HD DVD had 34 releases during Q1.

In other words, out of 100 high definition discs released in the first quarter, BD had 72% of the total number of releases, but only sold 70% of the total number of high def discs.
Would that be a fair way of looking at the numbers?

Looking at real sales which I actually have access to, I can say that some titles seem to sell better on HD-DVD and some sell better on BD. There is one catch though: the titles that sell better on BD do it by a much larger margin as opposed to the HD-DVD.

Not neccessarily there are some that seem to have done better on BD surprisingly, at least in my eyes.

I think you may be onto something there...
