The Digital Bits may have beaten them to the punch with the title announcements.

Universal is planning on more than 100 releases this year, with 40-50 of these available in the first half of '07.

Some of these include:

Day/date-ish:
  • Children of Men
  • The Good Shepherd
  • Smokin' Aces

Catalog:
  • Scarface
  • The 40-Year-Old Virgin
  • Bruce Almighty
  • The Bourne Identity
  • Meet the Fockers
  • American Pie
  • Inside Man
  • Pride & Prejudice
  • The Big Lebowski
  • Liar Liar
  • Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
  • Brazil
  • Erin Brockovich
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • Dawn of the Dead
  • Slap Shot
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

TV:
  • Battlestar Galactica: Season 1

The overwhelming majority will be combo discs.

It's a good selection of titles -- and there are more than a couple in there I'm game for -- but nothing that really gets me in a tizzy.

Glad to see that they are starting with season 1 for Galactica.

What I expected. 100-125 from Universal. 100 or so from WB. The rest of the 300 from Paramount and Indy releases.

That is a decent list of titles. Universal seems contempt to keep people waiting for their big guns like Back to the Future, Hitchcock, monsters, and Spielberg.

Too bad most of those will be combos. I am trying to replace my standard DVDs with HD, not pay extra to keep a side of the disc that I do not need. Nevertheless, at least Universal has come out of hibernation. I will pick up Scarface, The Big Lebowski, Lock, Stock, and maybe a few others.

The most recent DVD was distributed by Universal, according to the DVD packaging and Universal's website.

Erin Brockovich is Universal in USA and Canada; Columbia TriStar in some other countries.

Ohhh...ok thanks. Was just wondering how I got the Superbit.

Btw...this wasn't something about Thedigitalbits beating them to the punch. The interviewer said he couldn't post his interview until Universal gave out their press release. I'm assuming the interview will now be up soon.

...and it is indeed the same exact list.

What a tease, though:

Q: Any Hitchcock titles in the works? If so can you give us the titles and release dates?
A: Yes! Look for specific titles the end of this report.
No Hitchcock titles (unless I'm overlooking something repeatedly) were listed.

The order to the promotions list is pretty accurate from last year to this month so we should be hearing announcements for American Pie and AP: The Naked Mile soon, followed by Conan.

[i]As mentioned earlier Universal will be releasing over 100 titles to HD DVD in 2007. More than 90% will be combo discs. The first 40-50 titles will be released in the first half of the year. Some new releases coming are Hollywoodland, Children of Men, The Good Shepard, and Smokin' Aces. Planned catalog releases are Scarface, 40-Year-Old Virgin, Battlestar Galactica S1, Bruce Almighty, The Bourne Identity, Meet the Fockers, American Pie, Inside Man, Pride & Prejudice, The Big Lebowski, Liar, Liar, Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Brazil, Erin Brockovich, Shawn of the Dead, Slap Shot, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.[/i
I think I threw up a little. Not because I hate the idea of combos, but just the fact that they generally cost $5-$10 more than a regular release.

Universal's combos tend to run about 3-4 bucks less than Warner Brothers'; you can get most for $23.95, or less, if you get Amazon's 10% off deal.

I've noticed the in-store pricing is finally down to $29.99 for combos in my area. The Fox Blu-Ray titles are still more!

Thanks for the link.

As of today, this is how my radar looks:
The Good Shepherd
Children of Men
The Bourne Identity
Liar, Liar
Bruce Almighty

While I would be happy to get my hands on those titles, I'm not exactly excited about this announcement. In particular, I'm disappointed that some of these movies will be priced higher because they will be offered as Combo discs only. Even at $3 - $5 more, it all adds up.
I guess the big Spielberg titles was just wishful thinking on my part.

I agree.. I wish they threw us a bone & gave us at least ONE Hitchcock, but maybe Warner can beat them to the punch with the VistaVision North By Northwest. Still, that is a VERY nice list of titles from Universal IMO, now put em up for sale!

BestBuy. I went there yesterday and they had Halfbaked out a week early for $29.99. They also had Wickerman and Beerfest on the shelf for both formats which tells me they are getting WB discs in early, finally.

I'd love to know why the big stores have no problem putting out HD titles early while they know not to do it for dvd.

I was just there today and saw Beerfest being put onto shelves as well, but that was for BD only. Combo discs like Superman Returns and Miami Vice were still $34.99 and Fearless was still $39.99.

Combo discs
