I guess you guys won't be buying until the inevitable special editions of these movies come out.

Your right Iam not buying Sparticus unless they come out with a version that has a bette transfer. I wont buy a crappy release on HD-DVD or BD period.
As for movies that have been that long, King Kong is coming out soon and that had over a 3 hour running time plus a lot of extras. Ill bet its an awsome release, one that goes right to the top of quality transfers.

Cmon, you have to know why Sony would never do this. It would be like admitting that the BD50 with the use of the codecs it has chosen to use just isnt big enough. It would be like admitting something was wrong and Sony will never do that. I dont ever expect to see a 2 disc BD50, at least not as long as HD-DVD is still in the game.

Dude we all know why Sony is doing this... Double dip just like every other studio has. We all know there there will be a 2 disc, superbit, then the 3 disc deluxe edition. People keep forgetting about the double dipping aspect. I attribute most of Sony's releases in particular to their poor video quality and lack of the previous SD extras.
They will release a VC1 at a later date. We all know that.

I'm definitely purchasing this. Some commentary, a 151 minute documentary, and an uncompressed PCM track is enough for myself to enjoy the disc. Don't care at all if others are unhappy about what's included and what's left off.

Ordered this from DVDPlanet on Tuesday with 2nd Day Air, thinking I'd get it early since they actually list it in stock. Got confirmation email that day but no shipping one. Called today and they said they had no record of my order, even though I gave them the order number direct from the email they had sent me. Looks like nothing has changed since they hit the shithole in that buyout from 2003. Hopefully I'll get it next week somewhere. Dying to get this damn movie.

176 mins, DD+ and 68 mins of SD extras on one disc.

I pre-ordered from Amazon last night and the ship date is today, 11/11. I chose prime overnight and the delivery date is Monday. I can't wait to check this out and hear that PCM track.

If you want to compare that to Black Hawk Down, the Blu-ray includes more SD features than the first release.
So which is it? Does the release only have to match the quality of the initial release to be a good release, or does it have to contain all the SD features available?

Without the thread getting out of hand, which I can clearly see it doing, nothing prevented Universal from creating a 2-disc set for King Kong and include the sd features from the 2-disc dvd set.
I know BD gets criticized left and right on here about not including everything ever created for the previous dvd releases, but this is that one time where HD DVD did not include everything. So, I must keep my 2-disc dvd set of King Kong because the HD DVD does not contain everything. But I personally would have anyways because I love King Kong.

BHD bluray version does NOT contain all of the features from the 3 disc sd edition. They left some off.
The King Kong HD-DVD is obviously a first run. So, its likely we will see a 2 disc set of the EE on hd-dvd in the future.
At that time, it will probably have all of the extras. For BHD, we most likely will not see another version.
Am I happy about the Universal double dip? No, but I can live with it.

I'm gonna brag on Amazon for a bit. I pre-ordered Black Hawk Down and had a shipping estimate of 11/11 and delivery on 11/13. I chose the $3.99 prime overnight method. When I checked the status today, they said they are experiencing a delay in my order. They adjusted the shipping to 11/13 and delivery on 11/14 but waived the $3.99 overnight fee. Thought that was nice of them to do. So I'll still get it on release day but now for only $17.95.
