I wonder what the chances are of getting Firewall on hd-dvd day/date release??

Mr. Cinema 05-06-06 06:25 PM

Has anyone seen any HD-DVD titles at Target yet?

AndyCleveland 05-06-06 06:44 PM

i personally have not yet seen the titles at target or walmart, BUT word is that some stores do currently have them (apparently Target is selling most of them for $19.99)

Mr. Cinema 05-06-06 07:34 PM

I've seen them at Best Buy, Circuit City, and Walmart. I haven't seen them at any of my local Targets yet, but I'll check again tomorrow.

digitalfreaknyc 05-06-06 09:32 PM

Forgot to mention it.

I saw them at Tower Records as well.

Phantom of the Opera has an actual problem with its audio quality beyond the volume being set too low. However, both Last Samurai and Million Dollar Baby sound fine once you compensate by raising the volume. There is frankly no real need to reissue those two discs. Phantom is another story.

Mr. Cinema 05-07-06 04:29 PM

The response I got basically explained how the volume was set lower than normal, but she didn't mention anything about any type of exchange for Phantom.

I was in Walmart this morning. They had every title except the 2 news ones this week from WB. My local Best Buy has both, but they are $24.99

Looks like Amazon is the place to get them if you want them on release day. Plus, their prices are as good as I've seen on the HD movies. I can't wait until we start seeing some day & date titles being announced. My only concern is are they going to do all hybrid discs with new releases like WB is doing with Rumor Has It? I hope not. I would hope something like Inside Man's HD title includes just that. I'm assuming/hoping that will get a day & date since it's Universal's first big title this year.

Adam Tyner 05-07-06 05:22 PM

I agree, and I think the hybrid discussion is meaty enough to deserve its own thread. I've copied that chunk of your message and made it the first post in that spinoff.

Well, my third double dip is already upon me. I'm definitely getting Unforgiven. Full Metal Jacket is a rental though. Love the first half of the movie, fall asleep on the second half.

Adam Tyner 05-08-06 07:02 PM

I'm also game for Unforgiven. I'd be keener on Full Metal Jacket if it weren't kind of a staple on the HD movie channels. I'm right there with you on preferring the first half over the second too.

Oliver Clothesoff 05-08-06 08:31 PM

heh. I like that Warner is announcing stuff like a week before... a nice little surprise. Now, give me Batman Begins on the 23rd and I'll be happy.

It'd be nice if we got more than 2 titles a week...although it's helping my wallet. :)

that article claims Full Metal Jacket will be widescreen. Could this really be true?
Has it bee shown in widescreen on HD channels? Has the Kubrick Estate made any official comment about Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, or Eyes Wide Shut?

If FMJ is indeed widescreen, I'll buy it before I buy an HD-DVD Player (which will probably be hours later, if that's the case).

PerryD 05-08-06 10:24 PM

Full Metal Jacket has been shown in widescreen on the high def channels (HBO and/or HDNet Movies). Same is true for Eyes Wide Shut.

Yes. Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut have been shown at 1.78:1 in high-definition on HDNet Movies and HBO-HD. InHD as well, I believe, and probably others. I seem to remember HDNet Movies showing Barry Lyndon in widescreen as well. Their showing of Paths of Glory was pillarboxed, though.

Mr. Cinema 05-09-06 06:17 AM

 to the Full Metal Jacket and Unforgiven announcement. The HD-DVD library is looking a little better each week.

I knew they were gonna release something on 5/16.

Im definately in for Unforgiven....its in my top 10 of all time.

Awesome news!

Not a huge fan of Full Metal Jacket...Ill stick with my SD dvd....I love Kubrick though.

Oliver Clothesoff 05-09-06 08:27 AM

yeah, I'm just excited that Kubrick's movies are going to be a part of the 2006 HD rollout. Really looking forward to the rest of his catalog getting released later this year, especially the uncut Eyes Wide Shut (and a 16x9 version of the Shining - finally!)

In other news...

Kinda exciting that I'm going to pick up my first HD-DVD now ;)
