Sony plans first HD double dip on TFE
According to Sound and Vision, Sony is planning a double dip on TFE:
On top of that, parts of some discs had been transferred from less than pristine film assets, exhibiting the kind of dirt and scratches seen in a worn print. Sony has now committed to rereleasing The Fifth Element for just this reason.

This isn't a "double dip" which indicates a studio going back and releasing the same thing with a different package. This is a new, better version of the film based on better elements.
It would've been nicer if Sony had used those elements to begin with but this second release is out of necessity due to earlier incompetence, not due to greediness.

Thts good. The disc came out 2 months ago and they already plan on a new better release. Let me guess...they won't be replacing anyones who already purchased the shitty version, right?

I wonder how long it will take before Sony debuts Superbit titles on Blu-Ray. Bluperbits.

I had a feeling they wouldn't be waiting too long. And that film assets excuse is so bogus. The DVD they just released was in near pristine shape and I'm sure that they could have gotten the master from that.
Shit like this really makes me hate Sony.

Actually, next-gen DVD is HD DVD. BD isn't DVD. So this has zero bearing on HD DVD.

All that aside, one bad disc with a double dip is hardly a reason to "avoid HD for a year."

It'll wind up being a triple dip.
The second one will have a better picture (w/o the scratches, etc.).
The third will include that plus any extras they leave off b/c of space issues. This is assuming BD50.

I didn't even get his comment other than it being typical Spiky bullshit.

This is one of my other reasons to wait on jumping to the high def bandwagon because I know some of the studios will pull shit like this especially Sony who has practically turned multi-dipping into an art.
