I wonder if the BluRay won't have all the special features? Or maybe it's a 50?

Just wondering on the price discrepancy.

It's because of the stupid combo release for HD DVD. SR on Blu-ray is a BD50 and I think has all the features. You're paying extra for the tacked on dvd version that you may or may not use.

10% discount doesn't work yet, though...surprise, surprise.

That's what I figured, but has the specs and the fact that the BluRay is on a BD50 been 100% confirmed?

Thanks.

Well, then chalk one up for BR (providing the pq and aq are equivalent to the HDDVD)

video Widescreen 2.4:1
1080p BD-50
discs 1
publisher Warner Brothers

movie description

He's back. A hero for our millennium. And not a moment too soon, because during the five years (much longer in movie-fan years!) Superman sought his home planet, things changed on his adopted planet. Nations moved on without him. Lois Lane now has a son, a fiance and a Pulitzer for "Why the World Doesn't Need Superman." And Lex Luthor has a plan that will destroy millions - no, billions - of lives. Filmmaker Bryan Singer (X-Men) gives the world the Superman it needs, honoring the legend everyone loves while taking it in a powerful new direction. Brandon Routh proves a perfect choice to wear the hero's cape, leading a top cast that includes Kate Bosworth as Lois and Kevin Spacey as Lex. And the thrills - from a sky-grapple with a tumbling jumbo jet to a continent-convulsing showdown - redefine Wow. "I'm always around," Superman tells Lois. You'll be glad he is.

disc features

* Making Superman Returns: From Script to Screen
* Designing Superman: From Art and Costume Design to Set Construction
* The Joy of Lex: Behind-the-Scenes with Kevin Spacey
* How Filmmakers Re-created Jor-El
* Over 10 Additional Scenes

Hmm, the more I think about it the more I'm okay with this. I think I would pay an extra $4 to have this on DVD as well.

It will be exactly the same. The WB encodes are the same on both formats. And all extras will be the same as well.

Again, although we may hate it, I've heard a lot of people that love the combos idea and they're mostly people that aren't hardcore about the format. They just need to lower the prices...and you can blame the studios for that, not the format.

I do blame the studios, make no mistake there.

The only other difference is the audio track. HD DVD gets DD+ while the BD gets regular DD. I think Warner's bitrates are 640 kbps, compared to Universal and Paramount at 1.5mbps.

If the 640 applies to both DD+ and DD, then technically, the HD DVD version should sound better, right?

The HD-DVD is supposed to have TrueHD

Paramount has yet to make a combo disc and it doesn't appear they have any intention to. I applaud them for that.

The reason I chose the HD formats was because I was done buying dvds. Now, I'm still buying dvds because I have no choice.

I didn't know that was confirmed. I may be in the minority, but my ears can't tell the difference between DD+ and TrueHD. I've tried out Perfect Storm and Troy on my new Denon receiver and they sounded identical to me. Yet some people on AVS brag about TrueHD being the greatest thing ever invented.

I'll probably get the BD version of Supes. #1 to avoid the combo, #2 I'm not an audiophile, so a plain old DD track is fine with me, and #3 the BD version is cheaper.

This is one title that makes sense for a dual format release. He really does wear red and blue.

No. They will sound exactly the same. Warner uses the same bitrate for their Blu-ray DD encodes as they do for their HD DVD DD+ encodes. In this case, the "+" means absolutely nothing. If anything, the DD might sound a little better (because of the decoding process), but not anything you would be able to hear.

Note, I'm just regurgitating what Dolby has said on this issue.
