Theres a big difference in $299 versus $499 price point (and thats for the low end PS3). People want something affordable. $499 is just alot of money to alot of people. Xbox 360 and Nintendo can make up some ground by charging alot less.

Last night, I talked to my brother (who has both a xbox and PS2)....he was asking my about the ps3 and if I was going to get one. I said that I didnt know. He said that he couldnt afford it and would wait.

The PS2/Xbox comparisons are really hard to make now. The PS3 is launching AFTER the 360 AND is alot more money. The PS2 didnt have these issues.

Also, MS now has some market pull with titles that they didnt have back when the Xbox was brand new. Everyone knew PS and what they had to offer. Noone really knew what the xbox was all about so sales were sluggish at the beginning while PS2 had a huge advantage.

Most arent going to shell out the $500+ JUST because its Sony or Playstation.

Time will tell .

I'm not a part of the gaming community so I'd have no idea. Do they even give a shit about Blu-Ray or even know what it is? How much of their excitement is compounded by the addition of BR?

Yep....I just think PS3 has an uphill battle with competition from the less expensive 360 and Wii....whereas when the PS2 came out, it really didnt have any competition.

In 2000, having a dvd player in the unit was a big deal since the format had really taken off....BD just doesnt have the pull that DVD had at that time (not to mention the fact that an HDTV is a pre-req for utilizing BD).

360 better be true to their release dates too....An affordable hd-dvd drive, Halo 3, Splinter Cell Double Agent and Gears of War better be released for the holiday season....they will be a big draw.

A lot of people are excited over BlueRay without really understanding it or understanding the minute differences between it and HD-DVD.

Yeah, I think this is an issue for both formats. It takes alot to be able to utilize or see a difference in quality.

This new format is NOT similar to VHS versus DVD. Most homes were able to utilize DVD and it was very noticeable.

Though the resolution is substatially higher for BD and HD-DVD, J6P still wont see a big enough difference to embrace these formats for a while.

Mostly because they don't have the equipment to care.

But there will be some J6P's (like the one I saw at my first HD-DVD demo) that will buy into it right away. At the very least, it makes their already existing collection look amazing.

Well, looks like Halo3 wont be out until January 2007...thats a blow for the 360....it WILL generate alot of sales, but a xmas release would have stolen some thunder from PS3. Maybe it will change.

IMO though, Halo 3 is probably more anticipated than ANY game thats being released on PS3 this fall. Also, I bet Zelda for Wii is more anticipated than anything for PS3.

Their attitude really irritates me. I see where many of the Sony fanboys that post on this site get it from. I love Sony technology like SACD, but if this "we run the gaming and home video industry" attitude keeps up I may bypass Blu-ray and the PS3 completely. I will probably find some way to go on in my life without ever playing FFXIII or watching Hitch in HD.

Im definitely done with Sony and the PS3. I will embrace BR as a format if it ends up winning the format war for home video obviously, but will never buy a PS3. Sucks about Halo 3 coming in Jan 2007, because its the one game that I want and will push me to picking up a 360 (as Halo 2 got me to go out and pick up the Xbox). Depending on price drops and the specs to the add on drive will be the final determining factor if I pick up a 360 now.

That's the same attitude that Atari and Nintendo had before Sony. They both had reason, and then the reasons went away. Someday it will for Sony, too.

Depends on the gaming community you are referring to. On this message board you're getting a much different mix than elsewhere, and they know about Blu-ray, but it's a mixed bag on how much they care when it comes to gaming.

However when I talk to friends, they really don't understand the PS3 at all. They just say things like "cell is supposed to be superpowerful" and some stuff about blu-ray, but definitely nothing concrete is going on in their heads. Just the typical people buying into marketing which I guess is a plus for Sony, but I have to start asking around when the price starts to reach the masses. I have a feeling when it comes to this the tard-pack might actually outsell the higher end when it comes to the average joe.

Wow, on G4 tv, I just heard Peter Moore (head of the xbox for MS) say that Xbox has PULLED exclusivity for GTA4 from Sony!! That is a big deal if true!

So, you can only play Halo AND GTA4 on 360. Big move. Period.

MS is playing with slippery words by saying they pulled exclusivity from Sony. Literally, that statment is true: Sony no longer has exclusivity. The title will launch on both systems.

Still, that is a big deal for MS. GTA3 was a huge push for the PS2. I assumed that it was gonna be exclusive to PS3 on day 1.

GTA4 will be exclusive for the 360 as long as it's not delayed. It precedes the PS3 launch by a whole month after all.

Were many of the GT3 games delayed? I thought I remember there being a delay for Vice City but SA seemed to come out on time...
