As mentioned in the Video Game forum, there's a rumor that there'll be a Black 360 on the market soon (via the Best Buy ad below)

If it turns out true then I suspect we'll also be seeing a Black HD-DVD add-on as well. The black will mesh it better with most home theatre equipment.

This is interesting....

(Amir) Response: Good question. Simply put, we have done nothing to make it difficult to use the drive on a PC.

That 360 add-on is going to reak a lot more havoc to the industry then anyone expected.

Thats all I got from X-box Booth. Playstation totally blocked all photos from the press also.
Others are game related and the girls only

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but does this mean the 360 add on HD-DVD drive will work with a computer running XP?

No, not at all. The addon is for the 360 only (since it will piggyback on the 360's power)

Are you sure it will piggyback the 360's power supply? Looks to me like it had an AC plug on the back.

Amir stated that the 360 add-on was being developed and tested for the 360 only. They didn't have PC support as a benchmark so they focused on the X-box. He said they didn't do anything to the drive to prevent it from playing on a PC either. We'll just have to wait and see if someone can get it working with a PC when it comes out.

The add on will use an external power source. You can clearly see it on the Prototype model and will not depend on X-Box 360 power source. But not sure what the final product will look like.I was lucky to get the picture because most of the time they just put the add on player in that glass cover. You can only take the front side pictures.

Here we go! It's official!

At its X06 event in Barcelona, Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 HD DVD player will cost $199 in North America and $199.99/129.99 in the U.K., France and Germany.

The Xbox 360 HD DVD player will come with a copy of Peter Jackson's King Kong on HD DVD (for a limited time at least) and the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote.

Isn't the remote another $50? That's like $85 in free stuff.

How can it be an "impulse buy" if you've already planned to get it?

...because I was still on the fence about owning Wii, 360 or PS3.

With this announcement..... I'm now more inclined to buy a 360 over the other two.

Yeah, but that still doesn't make it an impulse buy. An impulse buy is a spur-of-the-moment type purchase, like going to the store for milk and impulse buying a candy bar at the checkout, or grabbing a DVD you see on the shelf that you hadn't planned on buying.

From your description, it sounds more like the announcement tipped the scales for you.
