Anyway, last night, I went to visit my friend who recently opened up a new restaurant. I had already eaten dinner, but I ate again to support my friend's business.

Not a problem:

I am not well off by any means. I work hard and don't just spend money at the drop of a hat. I felt that this was a good deal and so I spent the money.

Hey, more power to you. Most people (including BD fans) agree that this is a good deal. Don't think there are too many who'd disagree on that. Heck, if I owned an Xbox 360, I'd most definitely buy one (and if I owned two 360s, then I'd buy 2 add-ons).

To me it's just too good of a price to pass on. So I am going to try it out and see how it compares to my HD-A1, especially with load times. On non TrueHD titles I will use the 360 add on. And if I end up hating it, I am sure that I can sell it for what I paid for it.

At least he's not buying Blu-ray Discs without a Blu-ray player.

I had a few DVDs before I had a DVD player. It's not crazy to do so if it's in preparation for a future player purchase, although I don't really see the point unless the discs are on sale, going OOP, or if you plan to view them on a friend's player until you get your own.

I had twenty-something. :D I started buying DVDs around 3 months before I picked up a player. Didn't think it'd take me as long as it did to get around to buying one, and there were so many ridiculous deals floating around back then that it seemed to make sense.

Alright, fess up. How many times did you do the 3-DVDs-for-$1 at 800.com? I only did it like 3-4 times, I think. -wink-

Yeah, I also had 30 or 40 (maybe 50) DVDs before I bought my first player, back in 1999. It was a Toshiba for that I got for $140 at ValueAmerica.com when everyone else was selling it for $300.

Good ol' dot-com-boom days.

It's in my bedroom sitting on top of the Hd-A1. I honestly hate lugging the A1 around the house so the extra player will be nice. That plus I really havn't played the 360 much so it would be nice to get some more use out of it this way.

I just won an Xbox 360 so I'm definitely getting the add on. I've been going crazy wanting to get an hd-dvd player, but for $649 cdn (and currently unemployed) I couldn't pull the trigger... Sure it doesn't have optimal features, but for now it'll do the trick... I can't frigging wait.

Wow. Those were some awesome times. I miss Reel.com as well.

Even if you got it for free, it is still a $600 system! :eyebrow:

Does anyone know if it's possible to support TrueHD and 1080P through USB2.0? Maybe MS could release a dongle of some sort at a later date.

digitalfreaknyc 10-25-06 06:36 PM

As far as what Amir has said, there's no plan for one at the moment.

I didn't ask if one was being planned I asked if it was possible someone with some technical knowledge should know.

Easily, I'd imagine. TrueHD has a bitrate of what, 3-5Mb/s? Even allowing a generous bitrate of 25-30Mbit/s for the picture, USB 2.0 can transfer data at 480Mbit/s. I'm sure it will be fine.

I don't think it'd be that easy. For the theoretical USB dongle to work, it'd have to be able to receive the fully decoded 1080p signal and at least pass through the TrueHD signal, which would mean receiving such signals from the video and audio cards, which I've never heard of being possible. Also, we don't even know if the 360 is capable of processing 1080p video. Apparently it's possible to output 1080p over component or VGA, so it's not like the lack of HDMI is the only thing that's stopping it.

Fincher Fan 10-29-06 05:45 AM

Any information anywhere about this working on 360s from other territories?

DJ_Longfellow 10-29-06 10:29 AM

I'm still hoping they have enough in stores to go around....although, the Amazon is tempting with FREE shipping and No tax. Although, my $65 in Best Buy RZ is better for me. So, is the 7th still the OFFICIAL release date? HAs MS even announced a date?

darkside 10-29-06 12:36 PM

How many of these is MS shipping? I'm honestly shocked there is so much demand for it.
