Thanks for the info, Giles. The official dates can be found at http://hddvdformat.blogspot.com/

China Revealed HD DVD will be available at retail starting December 12
Australia Revealed, Italy Revealed and Brazil Revealed will be available at retail starting January 16, 2007. On the same day, a boxset containing all 4 HD DVDs is expected to be available at retail and will cost $99.95 SRP. Cover artwork previews below...
Mention is made that the Discovery Store's "online listings are now stating that they are able to ship the HD DVD discs to you much earlier than the retail availability date, with an estimated shipping date at least 10 days earlier (for Discovery Atlas: China Revealed HD DVD)."

Only the DVD so far...
We'll have more information and hopefully high definition format confirmation as it becomes available.

The DVD came out last week. I think the 'confirmation' they're talking about is whether this will be HD/BD on the same day, or HD only.

Well then that article doesn't make any sense, unless they are talking about another region. It says it was "announced for DVD" in multiple spots.

You're right. I guess I was reading too quickly... that article doesn't make a ton of sense. The DVD came out on Oct. 10.

That's with the extra materials like the tin, cards, Robby the Robot toy, etc.

I'm betting its under $40 online. It's a must buy. I also want the big poster to go with my Kong poster.

Casablanca is a must buy for me as well. Forbidden Planet is a good possibility, but I'm unsure of replay value. I was hoping for the Clark Gable/Charles Laughton version of Mutiny on the Bounty, but this may be a good blind buy (will wait for reviews).

Forbidden Planet is a classic. It's above Casablanca on my "to buy" list.

I'm not digging this trend of charging more for TV sets ($20 surcharge on Smallville, $30 on Sopranos) in HD, but that'll turn out to be about $50 at Amazon w/discounts. I guess I can live with that.

Still, since they didn't get this out day-and-date with the standard def release (in advance of the Season 6 TV premiere), I'd prefer if they just started off with Season 1.

OK, enough bitching: TV on HD DVD!

EDIT: Just read the link. IME on the first episode + 5.1 sound. Awesome!

I could deal with 50 bucks for a series season in HD; I at least am admittedly spoiled by el cheapo seasons on SDVD. Obviously I *like* cheaper, but I can see a reasonable increase, at least at first.

Its going to be an expensive day early February! Hopefully it will be the unrated cut of American Psycho.

Well, I'll be getting Rocky & First Blood for sure. I really want Demolition Man too, so I hope Warner gets to that eventually.
