I "liked" for irony as well as to denote agreement with tasha. I have used the like button a number of times here, but I prefer not having it. It's an otiose feature.

It serves my damn need to let people know their thoughts made me laugh, but, like all other aspects of Internet culture, it's most-effectively used for evil.

Re: When Did the Opportunity to Like Posts Begin?

Why would anyone have a problem with liking posts here?? I don't get it, it doesn't stand out and I think it creates a better community to an extent.

There have been many times where I would have liked to hit a like button for someones post - glad to see it's here now.

You can disable "Likes" notifications in your User CP, under "Edit Options"

Do like notifications even work? I have them turned on but don’t get them.

I think it can be handy too: someone posting an interesting sale in the Bargains forum, a title announcement someone else posted that you're interested in, etc. It's a nice way to acknowledge without a slew of "thanks!" replies.

Liked learning a new word. "Otiose"

Yeah, I dislike "like" button's as well on social media. We already have the option to respond to a post and discuss why we like it, or think it's good, or even add to it. It feels just like...

this.

That said, it makes a forum like this feel more lively. Most people it seems use reddit and specific forums like this don't seem to be quite as popular. Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I perceive it. Plus, virtually everyone discusses serious issues on Twitter despite the character count limitation. Probably because they have "likes" and it's more connected. So having this feature makes it a little more competitive with other social media out there. And I agree, it's best not to have it in the Politics sub-forum.

There was more to my post than just "this."
But yes, I also had that in mind when I thinking over the pros/cons of the "like" button. I hate going into a bumped thread only to see "this" as a post. One more benefit for the like button.

That took longer to type than the answer.

I tried to answer you the easiest way possible by liking your post, but I can see that might be interpreted differently. Yes, they are disabled in Politics.
