I would hope that anyone paying actual money for an avatar would feel appropriately embarrassed about it.

I am certain that the DVD icon is intended as a temporary identifier to be replaced by something a little more classy.

Doubtless the full feature set and pricing plan will be advertised here in due course.

And, rather than using this as another opportunity to slam IB (or back-handedly Geoff or his new site), I would hope that there is some room for constructive criticism as to the specifics as and when they become known. In fact, I'm going to come out and say it: please keep things civil.

From the limited information that I hold, and which may be in state of flux hence my reticence to spill any beans, I believe that premium membership is likely to bring on stream features that have been discussed here in the past - plus maybe some new ones - and comprise a voluntary method by which interested members can contribute towards enhancing their experience of the site i.e. so far as I am aware, all existing free features will remain available to members and it will be a personal decision as to whether folk want to shell out for the additions that will soon be on offer.

I do as well. Can't stand them. Just making sure I'll also be able to turn off people's more expensive avatars.

I'll only go premium if Thor can't block my avatar.

This is the only board I visit that doesn't allow avatars.

I don't know what the deal with DVDTalk and avatars is, but it's like trying force caffeine on a Mormon.

I'll only go premium if that allows me the following:

1. Unlimited Signature Size
2. The ability to put images in the signature as well.

Serious question. But aren't avatars more desired by younger people? Doesn't DVDtalk have a higher average age than most forums?

I don't know how I feel about avatars. I guess if they were available I would use one, but I would turn it off while at work anyway. I don't like having a lot of pictures on screen. It lets them know I'm not working too easily.

Now if they were going to add the ability to log and track your collection like Blu-Ray.com has done, that would get my bucks.

It would be awesome if you had to upgrade to Premium in order to read the letters "R,S,T,L,N, E" in people's posts. Then when you upgrade to Premium you get Vanna White!

Example:

<a href="http://forum.dvdtalk.com/faq.php?faq=vb3_board_usage#faq_premium_memberships"><img align="left" width=150 src="http://www.teddwebb.com/showcase/where_are_they_now/vanna_white-4.jpg"></a>I_ WOU_D B_ AW__OM_ IF YOU HAD _O UPGRAD_ _O P__MIUM I_ O_D__ _O __AD _H_ _______ "_,_,_,_,_,_" I_ P_OP__'_ PO___. _H__ WH__ YOU UPG_AD_ _O P__MIUM YOU G__ VA__A WHI__!

<---upgrade to Vanna Power now!

If I upgrade to Vanna Power I want to be able to go to the shopping round like the good old days. And yes I will put my remaining money on a gift certificate which is redeemable only at Service Merchandise.

You know what'll happen? They'll start with the shenanigans, handicapping the forum for regular members (more ads, slower speed, whatever), and the premium membership will only get the forum to how it used to be before that. Mark my words!

You seem awfully unhappy with the forum. Perhaps there are other forums where you could be happier. You should look around.

Where else have I been unhappy with the forum? Well, maybe with the way the forum's run, but not with the people on the forum. And that's just my cynical nature to expect the worse, which comes constant and pervasive disappointment.

As benedict said, please keep it to yourself then. This isn't a thread to bash IB. If you don't want the new features that will be available with premium membership you don't need to avail yourself of them. If you don't like the forum without the premium features you're free to leave without trying to make everyone else as unhappy as you.

What the hell are you talking about? It seems like we're having two completely different conversations here, and I have no idea what it is you're responding to and getting so sensitive over. I think you're the one that needs to move on.

Are you really that confused? Re-read your comments in this thread. The mods are just saying to chill out with the comments that attack IB or assume the worst.

If that's the case, I think you guys are taking my posts way too seriously. Is Groucho the only one allowed to joke around?
