I don't like the movies that are being advertized in my posts! I am afraid people will think I am promoting those stupid, inane, sappy, movies!

I think a $30 yearly membership "with possible perks" sounds about right.
I prefer the other ads, however, since DVDTalk is free, Geoff can do what he needs to so he can make ends meet so the board stays alive!

My work seems to filter out all these ads, and I kept seeing all these empty blocks of text which was really confusing me. When I got home I finally saw that it was ads that were causing it. I much prefer them after the first post. It makes the posts annoying to read.

I think it's great and is long overdo. I was posting in a forum recently and saw an ad about heat pump repair. Who knew that I have a heat pump issue? Only the advertisers, that's who!

I'm in the "not a fan" camp.
Good thing I've limited my DVDTalk time to a few minutes a day on the TV and Video Game threads.
But if you have to pay the bills... you gots ta do what you gots ta do.

Gary: Oh, crap.

I don't like the "inside posts"
Everytime someone "Quote"(s) the OP you have this Ad that is brought down - it screws with the formating of the OP.
I wouldn't be so bad if the Ad was not brought down everytime someone quoted the OP

I think it's fair to say that just about everyone hates the new ads. Answer me this - was the way it was before, the ads after the posts, not bringing in enough money so you decided to change it to this, or are you just doing this purely as a test to see how it would look this way, and it will still bring in the same amount of money?

Jeesh these are terrible, even the ads between the first two posts were better than having an ad right inside my post! I'll be very selective about where I post and unfortunately how much I come here if this type of ad is going to stay.
Isn't there a better solution?

But if it pays the bills...

I hate these ads as well. I very rarely visit the feedback forum since overall I think that DVDtalk is a pretty good site, but because of the inside ads and those loud HD-DVDs ones, I had to come over and agree with the complaints.
I would much rather having large blocks of ads between the first and second posts.

Everyone keeps talking about these HD-DVD ads - apparently I completely missed those. No idea what everyone is talking about.

Yeah, I can see a lot of people messing with their posts to avoid having the ads inside of them (as Dignam mentioned) or adding some negative comments about the ad (as in Randy's post). I feel bad for Geoff since he needs money to run the site, which seems to put him at the mercy of the ad companies to some degree, but this seems like a bad direction to go. Hopefully he'll let the sponsors know that many of us really dislike this idea. I don't click on internet ads anyway, but I think I'll take extra effort to avoid any sponsors that are featured in the in-post ads.

I don't believe that forced advertisements inside our posts (of all things) are going to help sell anything.
Once a person's offended, they shut down to the thing that caused the offense.
I see this strategy as counterproductive at best.

You do not put the interest of advertisers ahead of the integrity of the forum and the convenience of users. Along with mostly wise moderation, forum members is what makes this a great site - run them away, and you're left with NOTHING.

Does anyone know if that Richard Gere movie, The Hoax is in theaters now? I've been searching the internet but I'm not a very good searcher. If only there was a way to have such information added to the messages on the internet that I'm already reading all the time, that would be awesome.
Edit: THANK YOU, Geoff! I see it!!
