I thought this was a bug. Man, it's not good. I can't help but attribute it to the person posting. It looks like it's their avatar or something they are linking to.
For the record, I will never click on any of those ads in someone's message if that helps in the decision.
The ads between posts were not nearly as annoying.
And yes, I still want to pay for no ads at all.

So that's another flaw with the in post ads as they'll be more annoying to some.

Like this (floated to the right, of course):
<div style="width: 315px; height: 275px; background-color: #666666; color: #FFFFFF; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle; font-size: 10px"><div style="padding: 3px 0 3px 0">Advertisement</div><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v399/dabrink/banner_300x250.jpg" />
</div>

It seems that the people that are complaining the most and say that they hate it are the ones that the ads are placed in!
For the record I LOVE IT! not really

What is the deal with the always rumored ad-free premium DVDTalk? Even if it had to be $50/year, at least we would have the option to not have to view these annoying-as-hell ads.
I know things have to be paid for, but it seems like things are getting constantly worse with the advertisements (first the HD-DVD ads and now this). It would be nice to have a choice to pay and not view ads.
At the very least, a premium version would keep down the bitching (because at least then we would all have a choice to pay or suffer the ads).

Another vote for ads between the posts rather than inside them. This is just a terrible idea, they look awful and they're extremely distracting. I thought for sure my browser was broken.

And yes, those were much less obtrusive, and really didn't bother me much even appear 2 or 3 times per page.

They were annoying like all ads, but the bills have to be paid to keep the site up so I can live with most ads. The loud as flash ads are way too much, and these in post ads are pretty close to crossing that line as well.

No sir. I don't care for the new ad placement at all.

I thought it was bug, too. Geoff, can I send you a check or money order or something? I'd gladly pay for membership as I know others would, too. I know you're having a hard time finding a "paypal" type thing but in the mean time, I know there are lots of us that would gladly send you a check/money order.
These adds in the post are distracting and make the page look weird.

Um, they do look weird like that, but it seems like something I'd just get used to. It doesn't bug me as much as some other folks.
edit... I changed my mind. A few of the ads really are annoying.
