Every time I see a copy of the Jesus Camp dvd on a store shelf, I punch it into shards. I'm careful not to get caught, so I don't have to pay for it and it ends up as a loss for the manufacturer... fuckers!

I actually don't mind the intrusive ads. This is America and Geoff can do what he wants. I run 1600x1200 resolution on my monitor so the ad rarely interferes with what I'm trying to read. There's only so many ads you can have on your home page, and I do understand the need to make money . There's just a fine line and once you've crossed it you have to deal with a lot of clutter. I'm sure it will be fine in the long run .

What's funny, and really speaks to the non-effectiveness of these ads is how most of us (including me) had to have BWG's "ads" pointed out to us. I just read his post without even looking at the ads he wrote, assuming they were real and thinking that the joke was only that the ads were a distraction. They are a distraction, but we still don't read them.

I don't see why an ad company recommends a strategy that annoys the shit out of the people the ads are supposed to be targeting.

I am apparently in the minority, but I don't mind them. I do wish we could pay for membership w/o ads, but I only say that to support Geoff. And if these make him more money, I'm for that.

not that they interfere all that much, I'm pretty good at ignoring ads for the most part.. but I do think it is a little worrisome when you put ads inside people's posts, especially without any indictation that it is an ad. The div border seems like a decent compromise if these ads have to stay

Just to re-iterate. This new banner placement is <b>A Test</b>. I understand that it's wildly unpopular so far, but that's part of the test to see what people think. I'm planning on running the test for at least a week, probably till the end of the month and then look at the numbers and the feedback and decide if we stay with the new or go back to the old, or test a 3rd option.

We understand, Geoff. Please don't take most of us too seriously, we're just being our usual Otter selves.
