The more of them I see the more I think the new smilies look like easter eggs. Too pastel and a lame 3d effect.

twikoff, what are you using? It's slow for me, though not much slower than normal.

I agree, if only because the bright white is hard to look at for long periods. I preferred the calmer grey of before.

I just dislike the overall look of it now. The previous look was much better. Also, the sponsor ad is just horrible.

the sponsored links thing IN the threads has got to go. i've been to many boards, and i've never seen that before and i just think that really blows. i realize the need to advertise, but please don't do it in the middle of a thread.

I don't really have a problem with the sponsored box. It takes one second to scroll past that, and if it helps Geoff, I can live with it.

IMO, the Other Forum still isn't fun despite certain implementations to make it so. The community feel of the forum, the small town'ness that attracted me to it in 2001, has been broken down slowly and this last step of the CHANGE is a big one. It is now like a MAJOR city in here with advertising and assholes all over the place. It seems that a lot of threads now break out into some silly argument and each night I am seeing scantly clad women in ads (okay, so maybe that last one isn't such a big deal ).

Anyway, just my two as a dude that's been here for awhile. As I said, things had been breaking down slowly but this change is like a wreaking ball to the forum and all these little pieces left reminding me how this place once ways, how it could be, are hidden by the new condo being built on the lot and all the crap that comes with it. Ebb and flow is the old line Geoff has used in the past but on viewing the site today I have to say there has been FAR TOO MUCH FLOW and the river it has created is polluted. One just needs to see the post difference in the WHAT WE LIKE and WHAT WE DON’T LIKE threads to know that.
Holy shit, mark today down in the history books... View made a post that actually made some sense!

As for me... I don't like the new look or the new color scheme. The look of this place reminds me of a hospital. There are alot of things I could list off that I don't like, but I'll wait and see what this place looks likes after Geoff tweaks with it for a few weeks.

Oh well... back to my raft.

Well i'll restate my dislike of the 'window' for each post... is there anyway to get rid of the spacers between them at least ? For me I liked the previous version where the post 'flowed' when scrolling, with this setup each post is sectioned and doesn't flow so well.
And was there a border on the sides before ? Kind of seems like wasted space and contributes to the 'window' effect.
At least the toned down colors are better, but still prefer old color scheme.

I just skimmed through this thread so maybe I overlooked it, but is anyone else having a problem staying logged in? Is there some sort of timeout option somewhere I'm overlooking? I used to just enter my password once and that was it unless I deleted my cookies. Since the new forum came up I'm having to do it everytime I come back after a short break (haven't timed it so I don't know specifically but it seems like anything over 1/2 an hour or so and I have to login again )

A single line post is now about 7 lines, with a bunch of blanks. Avatar options will make this even worse. The user side is Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to friggin big.

Too much dead space here. Looks too "mainstream" to be special/different from the rest of the internet world.

Have to agree that the site now looks like a gazillion other sites out there. Has lost most of its uniqueness. I read most posts in this thread, and I haven't heard this one mentioned:

I don't particularly care for the yellow blobby text boxes containing the first few sentences of a post popping up as my cursor arrow passes over the thread title. It interferes with the reading of other thread titles in that particular forum. It gets in the way and seems very unnecessary.

I also despise having to scroll past an ad that actually appears within a thread. Please get rid of that ASAP. There's plenty of other areas those ads can go (top of page/bottom/side, etc.).

Also, I agree that there should be more a flowing effect between posts. Every other post should be highlighted with a different color, not all white. I just can't stay logged into this site near as long as before. My eyes are actually watering after a short period of time.

BTW, thanks for getting rid of the "TODAY" and "YESTERDAY" monikers on the individual threads/posts that started the new version. Going back to actually using the current date is much better. Now I don't have to do quick math in my head first thing in the morning.

One more thing:

Is there any way to make it appear as if your sig. isn't part of your post? Maybe shade that bottom section of the box? Or maybe extend the separator line all the way to the right? I'm almost tempted to just get rid of my sig. area so that it doesn't appear as an extension of my post text.

Another thing I'm having an issue with is that once I click onto a thread and begin reading, the thread then adjusts its size a few seconds after I've already started reading in it. Very, very distracting. In some cases, I've already gotten half a post read, then it scrolls up or down and I have to go find it because the screen has just adjusted itself. This never happened before, and I wish it wouldn't happen now. As mentioned, it's very distracting. I have not experienced this issue on any other websites.

Sorry about all these separate posts, but I hate to run too many ideas together in the same post and risk them being diluted.

Yet another issue that I find is when traveling from forum to forum, I have to go back to the top of the thread and click onto DVD Talk, then whatever forum I want to travel to. The previous version had DVD TALK in larger, bold letters, and was easy to find, since it was right there on the very top of the border of the forum. Now, it's in that separate box, and it is so tiny. It helps that its underlined, but it is still way too small. There are so many other elements in this new version that are way too big, and seem like a waste of space, yet something so functional on such a regular basis is relegated to such a low-profile status. Please do something about this. It would make using this site much easier.

I haven't explored the actual functions and workings of the new version BUt just from a visual point of view, looks cheap and nasty and amateurish compared to what we had before.

Before you knew you were on the great dvd talk forums when you were on them, now the forum looks like every other two bit forum.

Before it looked like a gazillion other sites too -- it's just that the gazillion other sites upgraded to vB 3.0 a while before DVD Talk. There's never been anything unique about the presentation of the forums.

I also don't like the small type face. I'm not old before I prefer a large font for reading message boards.

The one thing I really don't like is the larger icons on the main page. The old version had much smaller icons. These are too big and distracting. Can you at least make them smaller?

Sheesh. What a bunch of whiney-butts.

I actually like v3. It seems "cleaner" to me. I'm not crazy about the Ad links after th first post, but I can live with that. The icons are visible at work now (for now). I like that e-mail notifications have the text of the reply in them, so you don't have to reload the page to see the reply. I like the check box on threads that indicates that you have a post in the thread. I like that there's a pop-up window for smilies.
