Just to reiterate, we are infact going to be looking at switching from Cogent to another upstream provider. We have our host looking into it now. We'd make the switch sooner but the holidays make getting quotes back etc hard...

Well, it's currently 5 am here on the west coast, and it's flying right now. Cogentco.com is responding back with 22 ms pings.
Too bad things fall apart during normal hours...
Thanks Geoff for your efforts to resolve this. Enjoy the holidays.

From: Work. Or commuting. Certainly not at home.
I'm still getting four digit hops from Cogent ... but they're around 1500-1700 rather than the 4000+ I was getting at times. Still somewhat slow, but I'll take it.

I am getting in the 2500-4000 range, on RR cable. I used to come here several times a day, mostly a lurker but this was my second favorite site of all. I have hardly come here in the last 10 days or so due to this.
I hope you can get it fixed. Thanks.

Here's a Washington Post article on why things are slow:

Yeah, this problem has pretty much kept me completely away from the forum as well. I cann safely assume that Time Warner Cable Modem users are tied into any arrangements that AOL has.
Very frustrating, but I'm thrilled there is a logical explanation.

But I'm in Portland. Why is my connection being routed through Washington, DC??? And it seems that not everyone is going through Cogent. How is that happening? Does it depend on the individual service provider or the server from which DVDTalk is operating?

I'm a roadrunner user and this slowdown is killing me! It's only on this site, but it's my favorite site. Is there anything individual users like me can do to help alleviate the problem?

Thanks for all the hard work Geoff. I haven't had the chance to be around the forums often lately because of the damn "peering" dispute between AOL & Cogent (as I'm on RoadRunner), but I really do appreciate all the work you've done in the past and continue to do.
