It's been horrendously slow for me the past 4 days as well. It's taken an average of 30-45 seconds to load anything on DVDtalk. Just did a tracert and came up with this...

tracert www.dvdtalk.com

Ok, here's the problem, read these threads...

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...e,rr~mode=flat

http://forums.**************.com/sho...hreadid=337331

As that second thread indicates, Something Awful is having the same problem at the moment (as is anyone website using Congent).

I'm a Roadrunner customer, and in the same boat. 2000 to almost 4000 ms pings through the damn Congent servers.

cogentco seems fine from my end. What would cause some people to have larger times than others?

It appears you and I, coming from our particular ISPs and Bay Area location are hitting Cogentco through a different router. The problem one seems to be 64.124.51.186 and we miss that one.

We've been impacted by two big problems lately.

1) There was a bum switch which was causing the site to slow down
2) There have been major issues with an upstream provider

The switch that was causing issues has been completely replaced, and we've been addressing the issues with the upstream provider.

The switch issue was something that just happens, but the upstream one is bad. So we've begun the process of having our hosting guy talk to other upstream providers about service. Perhaps moving the connection from Cogent to another provider (but keeping our hosting provider who is really great)

Thanks for the links. I am a Road Runner user.

Not only is DVDtalk really slow but that other web site I posted earlier in this thread. I was in the process of d/ling maps for Medal of Honor, but can't any longer till this issue is resolved.

Thanks for the update, Geoff. I hope you can work this problem out. I spoke with Roadrunner at length today - they are disavowing all responsibility for the problem and pointing the finger at Cogentco. Anyway, until it is resolved, I am having serious DVDtalk withdrawal - you don't realize how much you depend on something until it's gone (or severely degraded).

I sent an email to [email protected] several hours ago and now my tracert #s are down to 300-500 ms.

Doubt it had anything to do with my email, but that's much more acceptable.

I'm fine through cogentco...

Just thought to point out the folder icons, specifically, aren't loading up when I load a page.

Same here. The image server is not happening. Tracert is fine. All hops are fast. And many images are okay.

But the ads.kleinman.com/images folder is very slow

[Thanks for the suggestion but we really don't want to encourge this method. -X]

I think the site's speed is fluctuating due to traffic. In the morning it is the high hunderds or low thousands due to low traffic, but in the evening it slows down big time due to everyone surfing.

I'm fine through cogentco...

Just thought to point out the folder icons, specifically, aren't loading up when I load a page.

Reading those articles provided above it states the problem is affecting AOL & Road Runner users, but it seems logical it could be causing other problems for other users by some means.

Wow. I must have been a good boy. It's not up to broadband standards yet, but I don't feel like I am on a 14.4 modem any longer.

Well, it's working for me... now.

But for the past week it'll work in the morning, again, and when I get back in the afternoon, it's not working anymore. So I'm not holding my breath for it to be working in the afternoon.

RR here...

It's been bad for me every day for the past 2 weeks. 64.124.11.181 still returns 4-digit times, and though it's about half what it was last week, I really don't see any difference in the performance.
