I'm all for a sports forum. When I'm looking through other, the sports thread seem misplaced. I keep right clicking to make a new folder for sports threads, but i can't.

Here's why I think there should be a sports forum.
I could care less about sports. I have no interest. Zero. Zilch. Nada. The problem is that there are a lot of sports threads in the Other Forum that have misleading or vague titles. For example the topic might be "Unbelievable! Who would have thought that..." and then you click on it and the post reads "...Jock McBigguy scored 3 touchdowns last night!" Due to the large volume of these threads, why not give them their own forum so that those who aren't interested don't keep clicking on them. For those who want to post about the "big game," they can go right to the correct forum and find a thread immediately rather than wading through abortion and gun control debates. I would venture that there's at least as much interest in sports as there is in books, music, and video games.

I am pro-sports forum. I think there are a lot of issues and events in sports that can be discussed, but are not in others because sports fans are hesitant to keep starting new sports threads.

Oh, yeah.
The "other" would be nothing but quality threads if all those trashy sports threads were gone. Especially the current one about "fart-proof underwear"

A sports forum would be great! Plus, i'm sure Geoff could find a new revenue stream from sales generated through Ticketmaster, Sports Authority, and other related banner ads. I know i would use those links to support the site...I'm sure others would too.

Good God, can we have a Car Forum too? How about Sex Talk? Maybe a "Mature Threads Only" forum? "Thunderball's Life and Loves Forum"? "The Vacavilla, California Editorial Forum"?
At a certain point, I think the forums get too fragmented, and I think we're rapidly reaching that point (note the consolidation of some forums in the recent past).
The last thing I want is where the forum looks like this one:
http://www.dsschat.com/forum/index.php
where there's a bunch of forums that could easily be combined, and another bunch that have nothing to do with anything and could probably be combined into a general "catch-all" forum.

There are plenty of sports boards out there....I go to the Other sports threads during certain events, because I know certain people will be there.....you can count them on two hands. But then I love it when someone completely surprises you by posting their team/opinion/affiliation..... that's what makes it great.

I have always been behind a Sports Forum. Other will survive without Sports in it, trust me. Other is just too crazy to have sports in it. I think a sports forum would spark more discussion from members both new and old.
And I realize sports is not the drive of this site, but neither is Books, Video/Computer Games and all the things in Other from the serious to the inane. I mean, we even had people in Other that didn't even own a DVD Player for a while...something tells me they didn't come to DVD Talk for anything related to DVDs

I have to chime in again in support of a sports forum.
I refuse to go to other any more as most of the topics are ridiculous.
The sports threads were the only thing keeping me going there, but now they're not even worth bother with since they have to be kept to a limited number.
It's ridiculous to have a "one and only" thread for a whole day of basketball, football, or baseball games. Topics come up in games that warrant discussion in a thread of their own, no simply to be crammed in with a 5 page thread discussing 20 other games.
Just make a sports forum, and people can start as many threads as they want, as long as they aren't duplicate. The number of sports related threads in other clearly shows there is a need and a demand for a sports forum.

Granted, if something comes up in a game(like Toronto vs. Boston or Roger Clemens suckage on Opening Day), multiple threads would be something nice about a Sports Forum.
I do like einTier's argument. Where do you draw the line? Should we have a "Head Performance Forum"? How about a "Professional Wrestling Forum"? Other's other. If there's not a forum for it, it goes in Other. I'm warming up to the idea of a Sports Forum, but next week it will be the "World Events Forum", and next thing you know we'll have 20 forums and counting.

The games mean next to nothing right now, do we need 15 threads a day? That's 2430 threads during the MLB season. How much discussion does the Devil Rays vs. the Tigers on Opening day need? I would think that things like this would still go in one big thread.

Put this survey in the Other forum and I'm sure the results will turn out quite differently.

And NASCAR and pro wrestling would obviously come under sports. I hate one and love the other, but they are both sports.
