The Details
Challenge starts July 31st at 12:01 am local time.
Challenge ends September 1st at dawn.
Rules
Movies/TV shows should be labeled Animation from either imdb.com or allmovie.com. Other labels don't matter as long as there is at least a Animation label from one of those sites. Action/Animation would be fine.
This is the challenge where any and all types of animation is welcome, computer, hand drawn, puppetry, stop motion, etc. The entire movie/show does not need to be completely animated. Something like Roger Rabbit or a Ray Harryhausen film would generally be allowed.
If anyone has a problem with something someone watches or just wants an opinion on if it's animation or not, ask here.
Animation documentaries are allowed but not DVD featurettes/interviews that are just fluff promo pieces.
As with the other challenges, the lists must be numbered or it won't count.
Watching the movie/show with the commentary can counted as unique items.
Watching multiple versions(theatrical and director's cut) of the same movie/show will also count.
Lists
Since the general consensus seems to be for the easy counting method we will go with that. However, it is not required, so if you wish to count another way, feel free, as I will not be doing stats.

Please take a look at the suggestions for this year's checklist:
Add: Watch a live action film based on an animated TV show/movie.
Maybe add: watch a season of an animated series while leaving watch an anime season (in other words, have two checks for this: One for watching an anime season and one for any other animated series.) Though, I think with this one it could be a slippery slope. Anime season would definitely count for Animated series too. I could make it hyphenated.
Add Wallace Shawn, Mike (Michael) McShane to actors list
Also, any additions to the Criterion cross-over list this year?

Glad to see this posted, since among other things, it gives me a reason to keep watching She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power. I'd always avoided it on Netflix, due both to my dislike of reboots and I didn't think the animation looked good. I'm four episodes into the first season though, and actually quite enjoy the show.

Glad to see this posted, since among other things, it gives me a reason to keep watching She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power. I'd always avoided it on Netflix, due both to my dislike of reboots and I didn't think the animation looked good. I'm four episodes into the first season though, and actually quite enjoy the show.

I think the checklist looks like the product of a lot of good, thoughtful work. A few bad ideas that may have been rejected in previous discussions:
-Add Illumination as a studio (not the longest list, but Sing 2 and Minions Rise of Gru are new)
-Add Flee as an additional suggestion for non-fiction
-Add stop-motion category
-Add “comic book or” to the comic strip item
-Move anime and holiday to the genre list unless it makes it too hard to hit six categories

Anime, like animation, is not a genre it is a medium - so no
Holiday - yes move to genre
If we're considering Illumination, we should also consider Blue Sky for Studios too. It's got 13 movies, but that's all there will ever be.

Ha, yes, I’m aware of the constant discussion here of how animation is a medium, not a genre. And anime is a medium from a specific geographic region. I feel like anime has enough recognizable characteristics that animation does not, and that people would understand, but no skin off my nose if we need to be technically correct.

I consider anime to be a stylistic difference, much like "3D" looking animation, computer generated, hand drawn, or line drawing, etc. Maybe have a "Style" checklist section for the various stylistic differences.

I just wanted to throw out that both Dragonheart and Race For Your Life Charlie Brown are on the Encore channels tonight. I already have my DVR set for them both.
On another note, I hope one of my puppies hasn't gotten to my Voltron set. I may have just misplaced it, but a few days ago when I took disc 1 out of my DVD player, I wasn't able to find the case.

You can drop the list of animated movies that qualify for the Criterion Challenge, as that's been rebranded as a broader Indie/Art House Challenge. That opens up a ton of stuff.

Okay, I have finalized (unless anyone has any last minute concerns) the check list. Please take a quick look and let me know if I mucked things up. 
The main changes: I added Blue Sky to Aardman's as while Aardman is in business, they mainly produce films in one of just a few series, and like in the Sci-fi/Fantasy Challenge, I do consider series as one (So Blue Sky made several Ice Age films, instead of saying they have 12 films to their name, I consider it more like 5). I see why someone would want Blue Sky on the check list, but just don't feel like there is enough diversity of films to have it's own check. Does this make sense for everyone else or have another studio it would fit better with?
Added a couple actors to the list, Shawn and McShane. Added holiday to the genres. I did not add anime to the genre list. Instead, it's its own check rather than as a series. I did add watch any type of animation series (rather than limit to one type of animated series). I also added a stop motion check and added comic book to the comic strip check as well.

I’m not sure if it’s the same studio or not, but last night while I was watching Shark Week, I saw a commercial for the League of Super Pets, the movie with Superman’s dog, Krypto. But I was really getting vibes from The Secret Life of Pets, with the animation style.
On another note, given that I could still get credit for the current challenge, I’m sorely tempted to watch some of 80s cartoon DVDs, like M.A.S.K., and others in a similar vein. Partly because I have started collecting the toys too, and just got Jackhammer in the mail a few days ago.

The only thing I know for sure I intend to watch is the premiere of the third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks on the 25th. I've still got a collection of my core childhood favorite series on disc to go through. I considered going through those in January for the TV on DVD* challenge. Also, following my Eighty-Film 80's Daisy Chain project earlier in the year, I've been contemplating doing a Ninety-Film 90s Daisy Chain. Segueing across animated movies should be easy. There's also always the un-watched/un-logged stuff in my library awaiting attention.

Pretty sure they are different studios. Super Pets seems to be by WB and Secret Life by Illumination and another company I can't remember. Could be the same animators though...
So many voice actors show up in so many films! It's like the director thinks they can't be successful unless a particular actor is in their film. I am never surprised when I see Frank Welker's name pop up.

I may be mistaken, but I believe Frank Welker was also Santa’s Little Helper in The Simpsons, and I believe Dr. Klaw in Inspector Gadget.

Noticed that I had free Showtime thru my cable ending today, so began the Challenge with an awful cgi-filled Asylum picture, Aquarium of the Dead. Was hoping for so-bad-it’s-good, but it’s just bad.
