I'd like to put in a vote for United Home Video--they released about three dozen horror films, including a few infamous shot-on-video titles (Blood Cult, The Ripper), some actually good films (The Asphyx, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage), and some truly delightful '60s and '70s crap (Hillbillys in a Haunted House, Satan's Cheerleaders, Asylum of Satan). They've got something for everyone.

https://vhscollector.com/index.php/d...ted-home-video

And just for convenience's sake, here are the video companies that have already been used:

2015 - Vestron
2016 - Embassy
2017 - Media
2018 - Prism
2019 - Thorn EMI / HBO
2020 - Lightning

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Here are primarily picks for Slashers/Serial Killers, but some would work in multiple categories. Figured I'd keep it simple for now, but I can pick other themes as needed.

Slashers/ Serial Killers (all of these selections are currently free on tubi.tv with links)

1. Rob Zombie’s Halloween II (2009) personally, I love it…dark and brutal. Rob Zombie’s Halloween hasn’t been picked yet either, but I didn’t see it on free streams)

also would work for All Hallow’s Eveor Hooded/Cloaked Killers)*
https://tubitv.com/movies/587293/rob...-ii?start=true

2. Laid to Rest (2009) also Hooded/Cloaked Killers

https://tubitv.com/movies/520263/lai...est?start=true

3. The Collector (2008) also Hooded/Cloaked Killers

https://tubitv.com/movies/314320/the...tor?start=true

4. Hatchet (2007)

https://tubitv.com/movies/348936/hatchet?start=true

5. Dark Ride (2007)

https://tubitv.com/movies/371066/aft...ide?start=true

That Werewolf link is broken. Both documentary links are broken. Are we still doing the Criterion crossover, or is this changing to something else?

I didn't see this in the selected theme list, but count me in as a vote for this next year.

Also, feel free to add me as a volunteer. Thanks!

Damn. That was a great werewolf page. Updated to this and this. The doc links are being worked on, will have to compile a couple.

For the September challenge it's currently being decided on in this thread.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

We're now at 8 subset volunteers needed.

I'm working on updating post 9, BTW. My ISP is currently updating/improving their broadband infrastructure and I've had a very spotty connection with some outages over the last couple of days. I'm very slowly getting things done.

Chad, if United Home Video feels a bit limited, you could always add in its parent company, VCI, calling the subset video pick VCI/United (or United/VCI). It'll open up the field of possible subset films quite a bit.

Here's a link to the VHS tapes distributed by VCI: https://vhscollector.com/index.php/d...vci-home-video

And here's a link about Bill Blair and how he founded these companies, and how they evolved into today's VCI Entertainment: https://www.vcientertainment.com/about-us/

Post #9 updated ...as of this post.

8 subset volunteers still needed.

Hulu added to the streaming theme.

VCI/United, 2, 3 is now the official 1980's Video Companies Spotlight choice and has been added to the theme.

Ill do my subset pics later tonight.. but I feel SterlingBen should be the one to pick the theme night named after him (and it has nothing to do with me loving Slither)

I would love to pick that theme but also absolutely don't feel like it has to be me. And now that I am looking into it it seems like the Slither blu-ray is pretty out of print... maybe a little less accessible then I was intending.

Some alts might be I Bought A Vampire Motorcycle, Split Second, Cutting Class or Harpoon.

^Don't worry, the chances of SB getting attached to that theme are extremely high.

Also this didn't even cross my mind until now...

Should we go the chrono route and have four picks for the 'Four Seasons of Death' theme, or just stick to one?

I try to do all the chronological movies, but may not get them all done in one day. I would likely try to be consistent with the four seasons.

Slither is available for free streaming on Amazon Prime, and it's free with ads on Tubi, for those who don't have an Amazon account. Just sayin'.

I try to do the subset films in the day they were assigned so it would be tougher to do two 4 movie marathons. So I would probably rather stick to one, but that being said, I'm just one person so it wouldn't be too big of a problem with doing it twice. It's my obsession so I will be happy with what is decided.
