Checklist suggestion stuff:

horror film tropes:
"I'll be right back" (unless that's covered by dumb decisions)
road trip stop at gas station/convenience store "warning"
shocking twist

actors:
Bill Moseley
Brad Dourif
Tony Todd

directors:
Pete Walker
James Wan
Takashi Miike
Umberto Lenzi

film composers:
Pino Donaggio
Tyler Bates
John Carpenter

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Would it possible to get all of the people on the RIP list added under their proper designations on the checklist? For instance, make sure that all of the directors on the RIP list fall under the "Directors" part of the checklist, actors for the "Actor" part, etc. All of the ones that don't neatly fit into a category that we already have (or have shown up on the checklist too recently for regular inclusion) could go into the "Recently deceased" checklist item.

Or maybe we've already been doing this and I haven't noticed.

2. Features a nightmare scene
3. Features an LGBT character
4. Features a mask reveal (e.g. Dr Phibes)
5. Features a funeral scene
6. Title includes Bride of / Son of/ Curse of/ Return of
7. A character explodes or is disemboweled.
8. Features a severed head

I don't understand this check
--- Video ,2 -

8mm (Super 8) -

16mm -

All I have is DVD/ Blu-Ray/ and 4K. No 16MM or 8mm.
All the Carradine stuff was from last year, just haven't removed it yet. It will be updated. The latter was just poorly worded, it was supposed to say shot on.

We haven't, but I could separate them all into their respective categories.

Should the 'optional' items be removed from the checklist?

a) Yes.
b) No.
c) Other.
Please vote on this one if you haven't already. We've done so many polls this year it just got overlooked.

Optional items -- I'd leave them since they're optional.

Talk about making a mistake, as a director he only has 3 horror movies. I hope you didn't waste your time looking him up.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

How about a “haven’t I seen this somewhere before?” For the checklist?
Movies with similar plots or have “borrowed” heavily from other movies.

examples:

Night Of The Creeps & Slither
Evil Town & Evils Of The Night
The Shining & Amityville Horror
Amityville Horror & The Conjuring
Shocking Dark & Aliens
Malignant &
Spoiler:
Basket Case

Don’t click that last one unless you’ve seen it.

Leave them in. Let each individual person take them off if they want to.

Doesn't hurt to leave the optional bits in

I'd say why not. Optional is optional.

I vote to leave the optional items in. Never know when you'll be bedridden or end up having a whole lot more time in the challenge and it could be a nice distraction.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

James Wan in the writer category would be interesting. We've had him in the Director category but I don't believe the writer category. He has at least 10 (confirmed this time) horror movies with a writing credit..

Adding a category for dreams/visions would be good.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

All theme/subset dates have been finalized!

On both post #7 (w/ events) and post #73 in the discussion thread.

I was going to ask for some assistance like last year, that is, until getting completely addicted while going down this rabbit hole of links. Everything from zombie burlesque to an actual ball at the Stanley hotel. This now makes the third consecutive year where everything syncs up with some sort of event. All the links will be included once I get the table up.

Keep those actor, director, writer and producer suggestions coming.

I broke up the RIP category into separate actor, director and makeup effects artists entries. The complete RIP list is still available as its own category, but I'll take it down if people prefer.

This was added as its own category, and it replaced 'watch 2 films with the same title'. If you'd prefer that one stick around, again, let me know. Just trying to keep things fresh.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Chad, you certainly keep things fresh. You have a knack for adding the right stuff (like breaking out the RIP categories) while keeping the complete list or removing the watch 2 films with the same title for watch 2 films with similar plots. If that runon sentence (and word) was too confusing I agree with what you have done here. I really appreciate the work you are putting into this checklist (not to mention the poster at the beginning). We are very fortunate to have you running this thread!

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I am not very good at suggesting producers or writers, I'm just starting to look at these credits but if they haven't been used before Jason Blum would be a producer and Kiyosha Kurosawa would be a writer to consider.
