Re: The Tenth Annual November Comedy Challenge *Discussion Thread* Nov 1-30, 2020
While I've seen a number of movies this month, a large portion of the comedy I've checked out has been older/classic television shows. Most of them have been new to me. Even ones (Family Ties, for example) which I would have claimed to have seen the entire run have seemed new. Perhaps 30 or more years has caused me to forget or maybe I missed them originally.
- The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet - Had never seen an episode and I found the humor to be timeless. Led me to read more about the family and learn the show consisted of 14 seasons
- The Dukes of Hazzard - Getting near the end of season 5. This was the season missing the stars (Wopat/Schneider) and they were missed. I'm about to the point where Bo & Luke return and they can't get here too soon.
- Family Ties - Just wrapped up season 6 and surprised to see some stars appearing in early roles -- Julia Louis-Dreyfuss plays an attorney in an episode and Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes multiple appearances as a preschooler!
- The Simpsons - It's always felt like I'm the only one who hasn't been faithfully watching this show. I'm just now into the 4th season after starting it over the last 2-3 months and I'm enjoying it.

The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet is one of the longest running live action comedy programs in history. And it still has *no* season releases due to mismanagement and stubbornness on the part of the remaining family (Sam Nelson in particular who was attempting to restore the episodes himself rather than license it to a distributor - there's been no word on the project in a couple of years).
I've been watching "classic" TV myself - a couple of seasons of That Girl and most of Mister Ed. I'm currently in S5 of Mister Ed and watching episodes I don't recall ever seeing before. It's not quite as good as the first 3 seasons but still manages to keep the general premise intact without falling into cliche' type episodes too much. There's been a couple of episodes written *for* guest stars rather than having them incorporated into a normal script - those were a bit weak - and a horrible back-door-pilot episode that absolutely ruined the episode - IMHO it was an insult to the regular cast to have such a bad episode foisted upon them.

Currently watching the last season of The Good Place and starting the Ben Platt Netflix series The Politician. All the characters are unlikable, but the story in interesting, and Platt sings, so I’m still watching.

I'm going to easily surpass totals from previous years for content watched for the comedy challenge. All this time at home and not out and about doing things has me setting records.

Just finished my first-ever watch of The Good Place (I saw about half the first season during broadcast then got distracted from it somehow). What a great, quirky, imaginative show. My other multi-season quarantine binge was Schitt’s Creek, another great show.

My plans for tonight were thwarted by a 6+ hour power outage. I have to work in the morning, so I guess my challenge has ended with a whimper. I'm still pleased with everything that I managed to watch anyway.

Wrapping up my challenge with a perennial favorite, About Time. One of these years I’m going to do a long watch of Dick Van Dyke or another classic series.

While I didn’t get a lot of watches in, I did enjoy myself. Thanks for a fun challenge David.

I didn't get many watches in either, just found myself reading more than watching tv this month. But the few I did get in, I enjoyed! Thanks for hosting, david777!

My 2 Least Favorite First Time Views:
I had a pretty good month. I only saw 2 movies that weren't funny at all.
The Corey Feldman movie Busted (1997) was one of the worst things I have ever seen.
The Bill Cosby movie Ghost Dad (1990) was never funny, but some of the sentimentality worked so it wasn't a total loss, but I'll never watch it again.
Thank david777!

I, too, had a pretty productive year, watching all of Mister Ed, a season of That Girl, and a season of The Andy Griffith Show in addition to quite a few movies, most of which came from the unopened pile (same with the TV content) with about a third being first time viewings.
I always slow down quite a bit for the holiday challenge as there just aren't a lot of those I rewatch regularly so I'm looking at starting a rewatch of Game of Thrones as I finally purchased S8 during BF sales. I've been itching to start that since it came in a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks for running things, david777!
