Thanks. Had some no-rush credits to burn and gave those last two slashers a shot.

And highly recommend Cast a Deadly Spell, which is in desperate need of being Blu'd.

  • There's no limit to how many times you can vote, or how many themes you can vote for. The only "rule" is one vote per theme. You can do it in this thread, or if you prefer privately - PM or via email. Makes no difference to me.

  • Also, keep in mind that some themes have unfinished or better lists/links coming. One such example is the 50th Anniversary of Night of the Living Dead, which will be cleaned up with hyperlinks directing to the main thread later if chosen.

  • Certain themes will have to be combined with another theme or two if they don't provide enough titles.

  • And finally, don't hesitate to share any last-minute suggestion submissions, which brings me back to what was said earlier -- recheck the list periodically.
One final reminder. Coming soon is the elimination round to fill the remaining open spots, and that's currently nine.

After years of going without, we've finally picked up Netflix. I've definitely noticed things being added to the offerings, but never noticed if there's a heads up when things are going away. Do offering tend to stick around for a while? Can I assume most horror offerings today will still be available in October?

Actually stuff expires (get rotated out every month) and in October those expiring items are primarily horror.

How long is solely dependent on the licensing agreement they have with the studio, but most tend to stick around awhile. Unfortunately Netflix stopped making expiring titles available on their public API about four years ago, so you don't get the advance notice you used to. Nowadays it ranges from probably a week to a month depending on title. They'll let you know in your queue or the film/series page.

Or you can use sites like Expiring on Netflix and InstantWatcher.

And they have been known to occasionally yank some horror titles in October.

I see. Thanks. I changed my list to Manual, and now I see expiration dates which weren't available earlier.

Yet another reminder that we are still needing 14 subset volunteers. Been stuck there for a little too long.

I appreciate the posting of $0.99 sales on Amazon, as much as I love physical media it seems like a number of titles end up with digital only releases and you can't beat $0.99 for a movie.

My votes

Horror Movies in Horror Movies (characters in horror films watching other horror films on TV, in a theater, etc.) (ex: NOTLD)

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 14: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Just found this thread. I did the challenge last year for the first time, but started a ways into October. I'm happy to get involved earlier this year.

I will volunteer for a subset. It looks like you still need people.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 14: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Here's my votes. Not sure if there's a limit to how many we should vote for.

OLD THEMES:
• Giallos (my current fav)
• Made for TV (another current fav)
• BFI’s 100 European Horror Films (I love lists)
• Based on Horror Novels
* Bigfoot/Yeti/Tiny Terrors (been looking for an excuse to watch "Abominable" and "Snow Beast")
• Blood and Snow
• Children
• Creature Features
• Hammer/Amicus
• Medical
• Psychic Abilities
• Period Piece
• Vincent Price

New Themes:
Studies in Terror (from the book by author Jonathan Rigby):
http://www.imdb.com/list/ls063140031/ (130 titles)

IMDB Highest Rated Horror (with at least 25,000 votes):
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?gen...6&pf_rd_i=top& (568 titles)

The Pen is Deadlier Than the Sword - Writers (horror films with a central character who is a writer):
https://letterboxd.com/holliehorror/...riters/detail/ (122 titles)

Grief-Related Horror:
https://www.imdb.com/search/title?ti...rief&count=250 (85 titles)

Necrophilia in Horror Films:
https://letterboxd.com/holliehorror/.../genre/horror/ (67 titles)

Killer Dogs

SUGGESTION:
This list is pretty cool. There're a dozen things on here I haven't seen yet and want to see:

I'd vote for this one. It's a great selection of titles. And the documentary is pretty good too. It's currently available for free viewing on Vudu:

Coincidentally Fangoria is hosting a live video-on-demand viewing party of this at 9:15 CST tonight:

Personally I'm holding off for the 4K UHD Blu-ray(!) coming in September and saving it for the challenge.
