OFFICIAL RULES

-Movies, TV shows/specials, Short Films & Cartoons Count

-The movie or TV show DOES NOT need to be holiday oriented. It could simply take place during the holiday season (i.e. Batman Returns, Gremlins, Die Hard, etc.)

-Although the movie doesn't have to take place during the holiday season, a MAJORITY of the film HAS to take place during the holiday season. No movies with just one scene during the holiday season. If you're not sure, ASK!

-Any holiday from Thanksgiving through New Years Day may count

-A film can only be viewed once, UNLESS you watch it and then watched it again with a commentary

-There is no global goal, shoot for a personal goal. Whatever you want your goal to be go for it. For returning participants maybe your goal should be to beat a previous year's goal.

-Again, like past years there will be a THREE Wild Card option to include movies or TV shows you might watch during the holiday season that is not holiday oriented. My family used to watch Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory every Christmas. So anything is allowed, up to 3.

-Specials such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, New Years Rockin' Eve, etc. can count, but you MUST watch the entire special in order to count it.

-PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE number your lists! If you do not number your list it will not count towards the challenge

-It doesn't matter how you see the film, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, Laserdisc, Theatrical release, it can be counted. Just have fun.

-The challenge will begin at midnight on Saturday November 19, 2016 and will end at dawn on Monday January 2, 2017

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 12th Annual Holiday Challenge (11/20 - 1/1)

Since the election is now over, I have started to think about my list. I have grown quite a collection of hallmark/tv holiday movies on dvd, and I think I want to do something different this year. I hope to watch every single hallmark/tv movie I have for my list, I think I am up to 30-40 movies on dvd. I will still have some regular movies that I view(Bad Santa, Gremlins, Christmas Vacation, Etc.), as well as plenty of holiday tv shows. I think we have less than two weeks now before Thanksgiving.

I was at ~159 when I quit counting halfway through. Looking forward to this year's, but have set myself a limit of 100 max, and mostly episodes at that.

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 12th Annual Holiday Challenge (11/20 - 1/1)

I posted big numbers because 75% of it was sitcom episodes (22 minutes each without commercials). This year I hope to watch more movies, which should cut my total way down.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow night/Saturday morning. I really need some Christmas cheer right now. We own a home for the elderly, and a resident who has lived here for about 2 years went to the hospital today with what we thought was a mild stroke. It turns out it was a brain bleed, and even if she pulls through, she won't be living with us anymore.

That really sucks. The same thing happened to my mom in 2000, she passed in 2006, we actually just passed the 10 year anniversary. I'm sorry to hear this :(

^ Thank you.

It is really beginning to feel like the holiday season now. Not only is the Challenge beginning tonight, but the radio station I listen to, started their non stop Christmas music when the morning show came on, right after the local news.

I kicked off the Challenge last night before I went to bed with my first Wild Card. I watched the Nature episode, 'My Life As A Turkey'. It's a very moving episode about a man who raises a clutch of wild turkeys from the egg to adulthood. I had planned to watch it on the PBS Channel on Roku, but apparently you need a subscription now, but I found it on YouTube.

Did you watch this last year, too? I vaguely recall someone talking about it...probably totally wrong!

Watched my first holiday disc last night/early morning. I have the SNL: Christmas disc which has several sketches on it. One of my favorites is the one with Alec Baldwin on the radio show promoting his Schwedy balls.

Ha! I remembered something correctly! I take that for a win! :) I have a few holiday films I watch multiple times, but the only one I make sure to watch at least once is How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the good one, not the Jim Carrey farce). But I do try to fit in Love Actually and Frosty the Snowman in as well.

I have quite a few holiday specials I watch on an annual basis. This is just used as an annual wild card, because even though it is about turkeys, it really has nothing to do with Thanksgiving.

I got an early start to the Challenge today, starting not long after I woke up by finishing the first episode of Christmas Through The Decades, about Christmas in the 60s, on the History Channel On Roku. I started it yesterday morning, but things came up and I wasn't able to finish it till now. It was enjoyable trip back in time to a simpler time.

Went to watch a Thanksgiving episode of Diff'rent Strokes I had never seen and cracked the disc taking it out of the case... Oh, well, I'll just have to rebuy it. Fortunately it's the Mill Creek release and super cheap.

No, no they are not! :) The live action is definitely inferior to the animated one! I also love watching the special with Phil Hartman right after.

Have to admit, I haven't really gotten started yet on the challenge. I'll definitely pick up post Turkey Day, though.

C'mon, what was so bad about the Jim Carrey version? I thought it was very funny, a great Christmas movie and just overall fun. It was the #1 movie of that year, that says something. To each his own, but the live action version is good just like the animated version is good too. Nostalgia is an ugly mistress sometimes.
