Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

I discovered them later and they're both genre essentials. The first time I caught Intruder (on DVD) I was wondering where the hell Bruce Campbell was thanks to the DVD putting his name front and center. Oh, there he is. And now he's gone. Why did they give him top billing for a cameo?

That's a tough one. Just the titles that never made it past VHS (Dream Demon, Blue Monkey, etc.) alone could make for an amazing box set.

The Amazon rental links are finally up for Phantasm: Remastered, Ravager, and the others.

The Colour Out of Space is streaming on Prime. Fits today's theme.

Since the DVD set has a clipboard with the airdate before each episode, I'll have to start looking to see if Fridays are when stuff happens.

lol
Now I think I must have seen Pieces once...or at least clips of it.

That random Kung Fu teacher scene just sticks out...
...but I'm counting it as a first time see because I don't remember ANYTHING else but "bad chop suey"

I just saw a really fun movie for the first time. Dolls (1987) directed by Stuart Gordon. It's a mix between Horror and Fairytale.

A group of motorists get stranded on a dark stormy night, and take refuge in a big spooky mansion with a strange old couple and 100's of creepy dolls. It's all kinda charming, like a Tales From The Crypt episode.

If you haven't seen it yet, try to check it out.

Watched this last year. I think I loved it, but maybe I'll verify that thought later tonight after this 3D showing of It Came From Outer Space.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual October Horror Movie Challenge (Oct 1-31) Pt

A social life is this challenge's biggest enemy I've watched about 11 films so far. I had a bad few days due to housemate drama. It doesn't look like things are going to get better at this point. The drama involves me and another housemate and I don't want him living here and we need to work out how to get rid of them and not have him murder us. So that will be fun. Never move in with close friends >_>

Anywayyyyy, I haven't seen anything particularly noteworthy yet. I thought Forbidden World had a lot of cool elements but I found it boring.

Well I don't have to worry about baseball interfering with the challenge anymore with the O's loss tonight. I'm getting dragged to the Nationals/Dodgers game on Friday so that's going to seriously cut into my viewing that day though.

What does tomorrow's theme mean and what's the significance of the eligible films?

Edit to add: I just had my first experience watching a movie that I thought I'd never seen before with RUBY - luckily I immediately remembered that I had seen it last year upon viewing the opening 5 seconds so no time was wasted.

Well, The Forest was a major disappointment. So much potential.

The 50th Anniversary of Dark Shadows. The films all have cast members from the original series in them.

Pod, on Netflix streaming, was a lot of fun; well worth seeing with the less you know the better. I also really enjoyed revisiting Slither. Harbringer Down on the other hand it like a 12 year old ripped off The Thing and Alien and dumbed it down - even Lance Henriksen couldn't save it.

Wasn't 'Death By: Drowning' on the checklist last year? Understandable oversight but again I am plagued by looking for drowning deaths (I'm sure there's a list but what's the fun in that?).

I'm glad you caught that. It's supposed to be Death by: Axe, but it apparently didn't get transferred over when plugging it into the table.

Bummer. I was looking forward to it. Victor Frankenstein has been my surprise winner so far. A weak conclusion but Radcliffe and (Especially) McAvoy make up for all of it.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 12th Annual October Horror Movie Challenge (Oct 1-31) Pt

Chad,

I just noticed that these two categories were left off of the checklist on both the Wiki at the top of the thread AND in the copy in the first post:

Select 2 from the following anniversaries:
--- 10th Anniversary of TCM Underground –
--- 50th Anniversary of Dark Shadows –
--- 90th Birthday of Roger Corman -
--- 100th Birthday of Forrest J Ackerman -

Select 1 from the "Chronological Horror Years Faceoff":
--- 1941 (75th) -
--- 1966 (50th) -
--- 1991 (25th) –

Was it intentional, or just an oversight?

You know you are in for something special when the film begins with a six minute credit sequence of just text on black with 80s synth music played by hitting the demo button on a Casio keyboard...

Bring it on Black Devil Doll From Hell!

Maybe people are just suckers for bad movies but House of Seven Corpses has been the most discussed subset film so far.

Excellent. I've got Victor Frankenstein on deck but had resigned myself to having lower expectations of it for some reason (maybe because modern Frankenstein movies generally aren't good) so glad to hear otherwise.

Dolls is a personal favorite of mine; don't anyone let the generic seeming title/poster deter you.

Got Intruder signed by Scott Spiegel at a convention I worked at. Very fun movie and Scott is an awesome guy.

Also thanks for all the goth recommendations. I saw a handful of them but will try to track down the rest.

My mom and aunt love it. From what I remember, it was a pretty fun movie. Think it reminded me of PuppetMaster or something like that. Could be from the same people?

Him and Scott (director) are good friends and it was a way to sell the movie if I recall.

Interesting to hear as I think reviews were awful. I think I had my Radcliffe fill for this October as I've already seen 2 of his movies.

How do we make this shark look different from the shark in the first movie?

..... Lets give it a cool face scar or something! Or like a burn?

How do you burn something that lives in the water?

You just leave that to me!

Crap, that's awful sparks. But maybe you could film parts of it and be able to count it as a horror documentary.

Yesterday was a difficult day for me. Slept in five hours later than I intended, and then just got worse from there. But I was able to marathon the Species films and I have to say I was surprised by the results.

I really didn't care much for part 2, as it just seemed to be a recycling of the first film. And both 1 and 2 are ANNOYINGLY paced when it comes to the team chasing leads. Well, not chasing per se, as they seem to never move with a purpose. I never noticed how bad this was in the first film until yesterday. The worst is when half the team makes it to the nightclub guy's home and although they think he's going to be killed, they creep around very slowly. No breaking down doors or performing some type of patterned sweep. And then when they get to the hot tub it takes them forever to notice the giant pool of blood. This annoyance repeats itself many times throughout the film.

Part 3 was okay, mainly because at least it was a bit different. But the budget really showed in that one. And the latest blonde alien experiment was born with already pierced ears and breast implants. Talk about advanced technology!

Now the fourth one, the one I was most worried about, I actually enjoyed the most. All of the pacing and plot patterns were wholly different. I thought the story was strong, the practical make-up and prosthetics were excellent for a direct-to-video film. The CGI was not well blended at all, but the real stuff made up for it. Anyway, I really was pleasantly surprised.

But yeah, never going to marathon those again.

I had the same question, but then once I clicked on the Dark Shadows theme link and saw the list of movies I figure it's just those cast member related films.
