Seeing as I've found some good looking horror movies online that don't fall under the category of action horror, at least for a few days, I'm going to add horror movies to my challenge. Right now I don't want to remove anything though, as I've been watching stuff from all things in my challenge.

The first horror movie I watched actually counted as horror and action. I saw Dog Soldiers was on YouTube, and since I hadn't seen it in years, I decided to watch it. I enjoyed it as much now as I did years ago.

Wow! I've got to dig that out and watch it again! It's been years and it's a lot of fun! Fortunately, I bought the DVD a LONG time ago, so I don't have to YouTube it.

I'm doing an Indiana Jones marathon today:
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
I might try to add-on Romancing the Stone (1984) and Jewel of the Nile (1985) if I have time.

I feel the same way. It speaks to how much I enjoy seeing Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. I compare it to another of my favorite all-time characters--Christopher Reeve's Superman. The 3rd & 4th sequels in that series were certainly subpar films, but I can enjoy them because of my affection for that character and Reeve's portrayal.

I just finished watching a cartoon short (from the Best Cartoons Ever icheckmovie list) called Rooty Toot Toot. Made in the early 50s, it's based on the song "Franky and Johnny." They animated the song while it's being played and it is very well done. It's under 8 minutes and I recommend it if it'd fit in anyone else's challenge. (Or save it for the animation challenge-that's coming up here fairly quickly too. )

Luckily, I'm doing an 80's challenge. So I won't be watching the 4th movie.
Actually, I've only seen it once. And while I wasn't crazy about it, I wouldn't mind giving it a second chance. Maybe I'll watch it during next month's historical challenge.

Today I'm doing a family-friendly adventure movie marathon.
Goonies (1985)
Explorers (1985)
Young Sherlock Holmes (1985)
I just noticed all of them are from 1985. That was an excellent year with tons of fun movies. Back to the Future, Breakfast Club, Rambo II, Rocky IV, Weird Science, Cocoon, Brazil, Fletch, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Fright Night, St Elmo's Fire, Silverado, Teen Wolf, Clue, Ladyhawke, European Vacation, Better Off Dead, My Science Project, Real Genius, Commando, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Re-Animator, Spies Like Us, Return of the Living Dead, Just One of the Guys, Volunteers.
Back in those days, me and my friends would spend the whole weekend at the local mall just theater hopping from one movie to the next.

I was in the mood for a hunting show, so I started today's challenge viewing with an episode of Rugged Nation TV, on Sportsman Channel. The host was in Kansas, hunting Whitetail during the rut.

The Youngest Profession was immensely enjoyable - and the last-minute cameo both surprising and inevitable.
Play Girl with Loretta Young was excellent, too - and the more so for showing what they could get away with in Pre-Code days.... but also just how tame it now seems.

I saw it once and loathed it. But had to give it a second chance a year latern and it wasn't quite as bad - but the sidekick was more annoying than I remembered, and the "plot" made even less sense.

I just started the 3rd season of Married With Children. The series that I bought long ago at a cheap price is the version that's missing the original theme music from this point forward. Man, the instrumental piece they put in its place is horrible!

It's funny how things sometimes just come together without planning.
A few nights ago I watched a episode of Downton Abbey in which a Jazz Band had been hired to play a party at the Abbey. One of the songs performed was "I'm Just Wild About Harry," a song I've "heard" before but never actually heard all the lyrics. My main knowlege with the song was Harry Truman's use of it in his 1948 Presidential election campaign. It was nice to actually, finally, hear most of the song with the lyrics. Then... this morning I was watching some season 4 episodes of Saturday Night Live. The musical guests were Eubie Blake and Gregory Hines. I learned in that episode that Eubie Blake wrote "I'm Just Wild About Harry" and that it was originally a waltz! He played the song as he originally wrote it and then did a quick segue into the better known foxtrot (I had to look that one up) or "ragtime" version.
So... looking up the song shows Blake wrote the music and Noble Sissle wrote the lyrics. It had been written for the Broadway show "Shuffle Along" (1921), the first financially successful Broadway play to have African-American writers and an all African-American cast. "I'm Just Wild About Harry" was politically risky for the era as it was considered taboo.
It was almost cut from the show when a dancer took ill and had to be replaced. The understudy was a singer who did not know the steps, so when he was unable to follow the routine he ignored it and improvised. "America's Songs" quotes Sissle's recollection of how the performance saved the song: "He dropped out of line and with a jive smile and a high-stepping routine of his own, he stopped the show cold."
Cool stuff...

"If anything approaching a love duet was introduced in a musical comedy, it had to be broadly burlesqued," recalled black poet and lyricist James Weldon Johnson. "The reason...lay in the belief that a love scene between two Negroes could not strike a white audience except as ridiculous."
Cool stuff...

Odd advice in Another Face (1935). Police attempt to open a movie studio door to avert a killing. Studio man says "you can't get in that way - that's an emergency door!"
...and this is an emergency. Isn't that precisely what such a door is for..?

I just finished watching an inspiring episode of Long Range Pursuit, on the Sportsman Channel. It featured the hosts taking an amputee on an elk hunt in the Grand Canyon. He didn't have any trouble at all keeping up with the host and guide, over the rough terrain.

I thought that way too! I also enjoy Top Secret!. Both of them were played on Comedy Central, I think, as a kid a lot and eventually they just stopped airing it. I've watched my copies of both several times and I never fail to laugh at either of them.
