Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 11 Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
If someone wants to pick "What We Do in the Shadows" the vampire spot is still open. I only bring that up because a) everyone keeps raving about it and b) that way both it and Tucker & Dale could make the list.
And we're currently over halfway done. This time last year (9/15) we were just starting the subset picking. If I can get your picks soon, and those REMAINING 5 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED, I could have this knocked out in no time.

I've noticed other vamp flicks being suggested, so I'll also submit these suggestions:
LGBT Horror - Hellbent (Hulu) ; Zombies of Mass Destruction (YouTube) --- both are LGBT friendly and the queer characters aren't just marginalized punchlines
Chapels of Horror - The Ninth Configuration (YouTube)
Werewolves - Underworld (Netflix)
Cats - Alien (Amazon rental)

Alright, concerning the subset list...
We need picks from the following:
And they need to be from the following unclaimed themes:
If you're currently a volunteer and your name's not on this list, that means you already have a spot on the subset list.
You can still pick films already chosen if you want.
Link to theme nights if you need the links.

I think this is my moment to get off the bench and into the game. I'll happily endorse What We Do in the Shadows for vampire day. I enjoyed it enough to watch it twice!

LGBT Horror - Hellbent (Hulu) ; Zombies of Mass Destruction (YouTube) --- both are LGBT friendly and the queer characters aren't just marginalized punchlines
Chapels of Horror - The Ninth Configuration (YouTube)

Also, if we can just get that 1 remaining subset volunteer needed, the two I'm still waiting on for picks, and possibly a couple more that need to submit new picks (I'll try and post what we need tonight) there's a good chance I could complete the subset list before the weekend ends. Maybe.

Has Dog Soldiers ever been a pick before? If not, I will throw that out there for the subset pick. That or American Werewolf In London. Both are werewolf movies I never tire of. Oh yeah, throw Ginger Snaps in there as well.

It seems like one of my prior subset picks made it in... but if it'll help (?) I'm game to switch out for Starry Eyes (2014) to fill Eyes of Death, on Netflix and also in Redbox.

I promise I haven't forgotten about my pick. Things have been really crazy lately, and I just haven't had time to sit down and organize things. I already have some ideas, many of which have already been suggested, but I need to put them in their respective themes. I have a bunch of new movies from the Deep Discount and Arrow sales that I'm dying to watch. My friends are trying to convince me to watch, but I'm trying to hold out until October. It's almost here!

And that reminds me I need to take advantage of that DD sale!

^ There are some incredible deals on a bunch of horror titles. Some Synapse, Blue Underground and Redemption titles come to mind. The one shitty thing? There was a good price on Death Bed on Blu-ray early in the sale. A couple of days later, when I was ready to order it, it disappeared from the site. I wasn't too happy about that.

It's interesting how many 'dvd only' US releases are available in high definition on Ultraviolet. I've resisted the 'digital copy' trend but it is cool to be able to see some of these in high definition (or disappointing physical media is lacking). Since I just ran a few of these through 'disc to digital' it'll mean the blu-ray is announced any day now.
...Curse of the Demon, Dance of the Dead, Alien Raiders, Burning Bright, Undead, Hills Run Red, Village of the Damned, Botched, The Cottage, Teeth, Last Lovecraft, Night of the Living Dead '90 (original color), [Rec] series, Slither, etc

It's not ideal but digital copies have better quality than I expected considering no alternative exists (other than maybe importing) the price is right; Vudu disc to digital home is $2.50 to upgrade 480p to 1080p if you do 10+ (you or a friend would need the disc).

Would it be better for me to wait until you post this before suggesting picks? Sorry I've been late, but I will be ready this weekend!

Yeah, I'd wait. I'm actually working on it now and shouldn't be too much longer.

Alright, we apparently still need 1 volunteer, and this is what remains...
We need picks from the following:
And they need to be from the following unclaimed themes:
You can still pick films already chosen as suggestions if you want.
Link to theme nights if you need the links.
Also, don't forget we still need votes on the Criterion Crossover.

I'll suggest Carnival of Souls for the Criterion Crossover. It's available on Internet Archive.
