The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

Re: the last line is just a bonus reference, but the dream was real; while Aliens are
I know I've liked it before. Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood for it this morning. Just finished an episode of another old, classic series, Lost in Space on Hulu. I skipped the unaired pilot for now, and started with 'The Reluctant Stowaway'. At least in my opinion, Dr. Smith made a great villain. They never should have made him the comic relief.

I wanted to start off with a bang, so I put in Vol. 1 of "Cowboy Bebop" and watched the first two episodes. Now, I want to see the whole series again. And "Dirty Pair," which CB reminds me of.

I just watched A Trip to the Moon, on Netflix. While I enjoyed it, it wasn't what I was expecting. The reissued version has made it no longer a silent film. There is now narration, and dialogue, even in the black and white version I watched.

Why doesn't someone try that?

Can anyone help me with the way to embed images in my list of movies seen. I have looked up the movie, picked out an image and managed to save one of them to my post. I keep doing something wrong with the rest. Is there some kind of special way to save originally that would get me started. I have spent hours today and I feel like I must be missing some little step but can't figure it out.

This is a two subject post. First, while I challenge the channel to watch Sportscenter, I now want to read The Ember Trilogy, after seeing the first hour of City of Ember on SyFy.
Second, I saw on Netflix, that the very first, original Terminator is now available to stream, and also the 1989 Batman is also back on Netflix.

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

It turned out to be a nice day, if a little cooler. But I did appreciate that when I was out in the sun-we weren't roasting and was very pleasant sitting out there chatting with my nephew and friend.
You all might appreciate this, or maybe just shadokitty, but I had a sci-fi dream last night.
I was at some sort of a campground, in an RV I think, when strange lights started appearing. All of a sudden a sleeping woman floating about 5 feet off the ground came moving down the road past us. We started our vehicle and followed, trying to keep up with her as she started moving faster and faster down the windy wood lined road. My driver was Steve Carrell, and he rolled down the window each time we neared her yelling "Hey Lady" (think Jerry Lewis) trying to wake her up. Eventually she zoomed out of sight and we followed the light trial. I woke up when we saw the space ship.
I checked Samantha's room and she was still there thank God.

I actually just watched that not too long ago but felt a little let down by it. I had hopes with Bill Murray that it'd be better but thought it was just eh. The last 20 minutes or so are probably the best parts of it. I haven't read the books myself, but know a lot of kids think they were great. And books are usually better than the movie!

Just finished watching "Mom and Dad Save the World." Oh my god, how did I ever miss this...this...awful awful gem! I don't think there is an actor I don't recognize in some way. It's so cheesy, it's great. I love it.

It's usually helpful to not use encoded URL's for making links, for readability and in this case because I'm not sure if bbcode handles it.
The first [img ] url decoded is this:

To use an image as a link:

Thank you very much to LorenzoL and coyoteblue for their help with the the embedding of images. It seems that my image of the sharks came from LorenzoL's idea and I am just starting out now with coyoteblues instruction. By the time I am done I will be an expert at this, hopefully of the right away of doing it.

Does Hugo count?
It seemed like a Fantasy and it's (probably highly fictionalized) story about the guy who directed "A Trip To The Moon" and hundreds of other fantasy movies in the earliest days of film.

Allmovie lists it in the sub-genre section as a "Children's Fantasy" which means it counts.

I went fishing earlier today, so other than when I first woke up, didn't get anything in till now today. I took a nap as soon as I got home, but woke up with a headache and sore throat. I'm just working on the challenge now, as don't feel up to anything else. Took a break from MASK after finishing disc 1, in order to continue season 3 of Ancient Aliens. Just finished 'Aliens and the Secret Code', in which the precise alignment of ancient monuments were discussed.

I just got home from seeing "Inside Out" with my 7 year old nephew. We both really liked it. He has been raving about it since we left the theater. It definitely has a message about how you need all emotions, even sadness, but it's pretty well done, I thought. Loved the inner mind scape.
Also, while IMDB.com does not have fantasy listed, allmovie.com does, so it counts for your lists if someone wants to see it but was hesitating on going!
And popcorn, coyoteblue has it right. You can count however you'd like to count. Prizes are not based on how many you watched, so if it's easier to count 1=1 or 2 hours=1, either way is fine.

I'm looking forward to checking out some series I just bought on Amazon Instant Video. Bought Seasons 1 and 2 of Babylon 5, and the pilot mini series, Season 1, and the 'Blood and Chrome' movie of the new Battlestar Galactica. Plan on continuing the original series on Netflix as well. Watching the mini series right now.

While I've got a few weeks, at the end of the month , I'l be gone for a few days to my annual pilgrimage to Oshkosh. Don't know how much I'll get in then, but will have my phone with me in case the urge to watch something in the evening strikes me.

I don't know anything about Daredevil, but I'd like to watch it. Does anyone think it counts?
The movie says fantasy on allmovie and IMDB but the Netflix series on IMDB does not

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread
It should count if the character is like he is in comics (a blind guy whose "superpower" makes him able to "see"). Anyway, I'm hoping it counts, because I was thinking about watching it too.
