I fully agree! While I enjoy the entire series, that first season is the best of the three. It's a more serious and darker season seemingly aimed more at adults rather than kids. I've always wondered how it would have fared had they not taken off in the kid-friendly direction in season 2. I really enjoy the unaired pilot and once had the model kit with the giant ready to drop a huge rock on the transport vehicle. Before I got to college in the early 70s and found a cable channel (WTCG I believe) airing it on Sunday mornings I'd never seen a full episode. It came on right before we'd leave for church on Sunday evenings. I'd get to see ~15 minutes before we'd head for the door, but that 15 minutes was enough for me to know I really liked the series.

I wanted to start off with a bang, so I put in Vol. 1 of "Cowboy Bebop" and watched the first two episodes. Now, I want to see the whole series again. And "Dirty Pair," which CB reminds me of.

I just watched A Trip to the Moon, on Netflix. While I enjoyed it, it wasn't what I was expecting. The reissued version has made it no longer a silent film. There is now narration, and dialogue, even in the black and white version I watched.

If they're gonna add dialogue and narration, they should just put the verbatim recordings from the actual July 20, 1969 moon landing on the soundtrack.

Why doesn't someone try that?

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

Can anyone help me with the way to embed images in my list of movies seen. I have looked up the movie, picked out an image and managed to save one of them to my post. I keep doing something wrong with the rest. Is there some kind of special way to save originally that would get me started. I have spent hours today and I feel like I must be missing some little step but can't figure it out.

You need to save the image in a hosting site like Photobucket and then embedding the image to the forum.

This is a two subject post. First, while I challenge the channel to watch Sportscenter, I now want to read The Ember Trilogy, after seeing the first hour of City of Ember on SyFy.

Second, I saw on Netflix, that the very first, original Terminator is now available to stream, and also the 1989 Batman is also back on Netflix.

It turned out to be a nice day, if a little cooler. But I did appreciate that when I was out in the sun-we weren't roasting and was very pleasant sitting out there chatting with my nephew and friend.

We started our vehicle and followed, trying to keep up with her as she started moving faster and faster down the windy wood lined road. My driver was Steve Carrell, and he rolled down the window each time we neared her yelling "Hey Lady" (think Jerry Lewis) trying to wake her up. Eventually she zoomed out of sight and we followed the light trial. I woke up when we saw the space ship.

I checked Samantha's room and she was still there thank God.
I think this counts as an honorable mention!

I actually just watched that not too long ago but felt a little let down by it. I had hopes with Bill Murray that it'd be better but thought it was just eh. The last 20 minutes or so are probably the best parts of it. I haven't read the books myself, but know a lot of kids think they were great. And books are usually better than the movie!

Just finished watching "Mom and Dad Save the World." Oh my god, how did I ever miss this...this...awful awful gem! I don't think there is an actor I don't recognize in some way. It's so cheesy, it's great. I love it.

Even without decoding it:
HTML Code:
[img]http%3A%2F%2Fodditycinema.com%2F2008%2Fglen-coburn-interview%2F&ei=LzeUVb_9L4H1-AHziIPoCA&bvm=bv.96952980,d.cWw&psig=AFQjCNHtS9JILzlt5MLByhibWBnxo97dbQ&ust=1435863065286597[/img]
[url=http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&ved=0CAUQjBwwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fimages2.dallasobserver.com%2Fimager%2Fu%2Foriginal%2F7092932%2Fbloodsuckers.jpg&ei=_2GUVeXyK8GnggT594KIAw&psig=AFQjCNEZ8JOlw4izNxbazZXG9U6-c6LyUA&ust=1435874175785145[/url]
It looks like you're trying to hotlink; which is definitely a no no. Do what LorenzoL suggested.

It's usually helpful to not use encoded URL's for making links, for readability and in this case because I'm not sure if bbcode handles it.

The first [img ] url decoded is this:

HTML Code:
[url]http://odditycinema.com/2008/glen-coburn-interview/&ei=LzeUVb_9L4H1-AHziIPoCA&bvm=bv.96952980,d.cWw&psig=AFQjCNHtS9JILzlt5MLByhibWBnxo97dbQ&ust=1435863065286597[/url]
This returns a 404 error.

The [url] url decoded is this:

HTML Code:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&ved=0CAUQjBwwAA&url=http://images2.dallasobserver.com/imager/u/original/7092932/bloodsuckers.jpg&ei=_2GUVeXyK8GnggT594KIAw&psig=AFQjCNEZ8JOlw4izNxbazZXG9U6-c6LyUA&ust=1435874175785145
It sends you to a redirect page that gives you a link to the image. Once again, hotlinking is considered poor web manners. Please don't do it. If you want to use an image, scan a cover or take a screen shot using your computer and then move it to a image host like photobucket.

Also, to embed an image:
HTML Code:
[img]http://i38.tinypic.com/fo2k5i.jpg[/IMG]
You would get this:

To use an image as a link:
HTML Code:
[URL="http://forum.dvdtalk.com/12149481-post11.html"][IMG]http://i24.tinypic.com/2iqgzdu.jpg[/IMG][/URL]
You would see this:

I hope this is helpful.

Thank you very much to LorenzoL and coyoteblue for their help with the the embedding of images. It seems that my image of the sharks came from LorenzoL's idea and I am just starting out now with coyoteblues instruction. By the time I am done I will be an expert at this, hopefully of the right away of doing it.

Don't forget when you're editing your list post you can use the preview button to check out your changes before you save them.

Does Hugo count?

It seemed like a Fantasy and it's (probably highly fictionalized) story about the guy who directed "A Trip To The Moon" and hundreds of other fantasy movies in the earliest days of film.

Use a wildcard.

Allmovie lists it in the sub-genre section as a "Children's Fantasy" which means it counts.

Would Netflix shows like Sense 8 be considered a 1/2 or a 1/4 show?

If you're using the classic count:

4 1/2 hour episodes = 1
2 1 hour episodes = 1

If you're using the simplified count:
1 episode = 1

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I went fishing earlier today, so other than when I first woke up, didn't get anything in till now today. I took a nap as soon as I got home, but woke up with a headache and sore throat. I'm just working on the challenge now, as don't feel up to anything else. Took a break from MASK after finishing disc 1, in order to continue season 3 of Ancient Aliens. Just finished 'Aliens and the Secret Code', in which the precise alignment of ancient monuments were discussed.

I use Photobucket and you can adjust the size of your image so it will fit the thread. Have fun and it's really simple!

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I just got home from seeing "Inside Out" with my 7 year old nephew. We both really liked it. He has been raving about it since we left the theater. It definitely has a message about how you need all emotions, even sadness, but it's pretty well done, I thought. Loved the inner mind scape.

Also, while IMDB.com does not have fantasy listed, allmovie.com does, so it counts for your lists if someone wants to see it but was hesitating on going!

And popcorn, coyoteblue has it right. You can count however you'd like to count. Prizes are not based on how many you watched, so if it's easier to count 1=1 or 2 hours=1, either way is fine.

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I'm looking forward to checking out some series I just bought on Amazon Instant Video. Bought Seasons 1 and 2 of Babylon 5, and the pilot mini series, Season 1, and the 'Blood and Chrome' movie of the new Battlestar Galactica. Plan on continuing the original series on Netflix as well. Watching the mini series right now.

While I've got a few weeks, at the end of the month , I'l be gone for a few days to my annual pilgrimage to Oshkosh. Don't know how much I'll get in then, but will have my phone with me in case the urge to watch something in the evening strikes me.

I don't know anything about Daredevil, but I'd like to watch it. Does anyone think it counts?

The movie says fantasy on allmovie and IMDB but the Netflix series on IMDB does not

It should count if the character is like he is in comics (a blind guy whose "superpower" makes him able to "see"). Anyway, I'm hoping it counts, because I was thinking about watching it too.
