Looks great (and seems to be more than in past years).

They've got the filmed musical of Sweeney Todd, with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn. I don't think they've ever shown that before. Worth catching if you haven't seen it before, although as a musical purist, the shooting style makes me a little crazy.

And Peeping Tom, not in the middle of the night? Interesting.

Just secured my place on the list thread. Anyone else (besides Chad) done all ten years? I am equally proud and a little embarrassed by all the hours spent on it in the past decade.

AND thanks once again to Chad for organizing, moderating, peacemaking, taking all our feedback through the year, and generally being the champ of the "Original Shit-Ton of Fun"!

It's amazing how big this has become since it's beginnings. If I recall correctly, I think the discussion thread and the list thread were scrunched together in the very first challenge.

For the challenge, has anyone found a list of like 100 best/scariest horror movies and just start from 100 to 1 before?

If I could change one thing about my DVDTalk life, it'd be finding Chad's first Challenge thread and joining in.

I've often joked (to myself) that Chad starts all my favorite threads on DVDtalk, and that Scott starts the rest of them. Looking back on that first challenge finds this gem:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/6431641-post18.html

Sorry Scott, love ya, but you prove your title right sometimes.

I've kind of done something like that. Many moons ago I worked through https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/t...horror+movies/ to watch the ones I hadn't seen. Going by the date on the checks, I went through 121 during the challenge and then had 9 more to finish the list. I got through the last of them by November 10th.

I tend to avoid lists because at this point, I've seen most of the ones that get put on lists and lists tend to have the same ones over and over. The exception being something new that gets on a list that may or may not be good.

There was some French(?) zombie movie that came out a few years back that was supposed to be really great and had some amazing battle scene at the end. It was hardly impressive
Spoiler:
They're standing on the car while surrounded by zombies. It was dumb as hell because the zombies were constantly grabbing and then releasing their legs while the livings shot everything to what amounted to be a music video.

I might have to use this list. Yeah, most lists are usually the same, but seeing as how I've never went through a list before, thought it might be worth a try. I'm always interested in the newest and scariest indies films out there.

I thought that list was worth it. While there were some duds, I also found some new stuff I'd never heard of before.

I bet the forum could come up with a better list than one of those. Especially since Killer Tongue isn't on that list.

Man oh man. I just spent the last 2 (Maybe 3) hours going through last year's whole discussion thread. Getting pumped for this is an uderstatement And I noticed that a few movies that got well recieved here last year are on my DVR this year:
Would You Rather
Stakeland
Frankenstein's Army
Detention
(It can't be any worse than that other "Detention" I saw last year)

And I hope to add more headlines to my newspaper collection!

I gotta try to get a hold of that one this year. I'm overdue for another Melinda Clarke sighting.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 10th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Mondo Kane, I'm with you. Been reading through this and getting more excited than ever.

Also happy to see the categories selected as theme nights thus far. Here are my top 10 picks from the remaining categories.

1. Store Terrors (take places or has a memorable scene in a market, shopping mall, gas station, etc.)
-Some real gems in this category.
2. What's on the Menu? (take places or has a memorable scene in a restaurant, bar, pub, etc.)
-Goes along nicely with Store Terrors and there are even more possibilities here. Some "single location" horror films, too. Not sure if one setting was a previous theme or not, but something I'll keep in mind.
3. Planes, Trains & Automobiles (The Horror Version)
-Absolutely love this title and it's another one with endless choices.
4. Lesbians, Brothels & Sex Demons (a spinoff from last year's 'Erotic Horror')
-I can't get enough lesbians, brothels, or sex demons.
5. Summer-Themed Horror Films
-Next to October, summer is the best time of the year. Why not celebrate it?
6. One-time Directorial Efforts - Horror Films
-Interesting choice and that one-time effort sure worked for Kubrick.
7. Motorcycle Horror
-I just keeping of Welcome to Spring Break and how much I love that damn cheesefest. Recommended to anyone if this category makes the cut. Pun intended.
8. Twist Endings
-This whole damn list is going to be a spoiler! But who doesn't love a good twist, eh?
9. Masked Killers
-They're the men behind the mask and they make horror films so damn special. I should probably finally get around to Bava's Stage Fright. That owl getup might be the best I've seen.
10.Deserted Island Horrors (set on a remote island, beach, or desert)
-If I'm stranded on a deserted island, I want my horror collection to be with me!

"Yeah, more Melinda Clark!" is what I thought at first too; but please avoid Killer Tongue at all costs - despite some genre all stars it's really just horrid sci fi camp. You have been warned. [I suspect SterlingBen is being sarcastic in his Killer Tongue references after picking the epically bad film for subset last year].

Agggh... I've got the Rosemary's Baby remake in my list for October; going in with low expectations. Under the Skin is fantastic - really surreal.

Yes. Someone should find and post the Fangoria article on Killer Tongue that was put up in last year's thread. Reading that article as a kid was the highlight of the entire Killer Tongue experience.

Based on feedback from here and PMs sent, more themes have made the cut...

Graveyard Horrors (takes place in a cemetery, mortuary, morgue, catacombs or a funeral home)
http://letterboxd.com/holliehorror/list/restinpieces/

Lesbians, Brothels & Sex Demons (a spinoff from last year's 'Erotic Horror')

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?cou...ature,tv_movie

What's on the Menu? (take places or has a memorable scene in a restaurant, bar, pub, etc.)
http://letterboxd.com/holliehorror/l...s-on-the-menu/

Currently we're at 11 themes decided (including the permanent Halloween-themed theme) and that's excluding the returning themes. We still have to decide the subset list outcome after this, and that could potentially take longer, so PLEASE cast your votes as soon as possible if you haven't already.

Stakeland
Frankenstein's Army
Detention
(It can't be any worse than that other "Detention" I saw last year)
I also watched that other Detention movie. It was awful. The one with Josh Hutcherson is much better, but I can't say I loved it. It was an interesting watch.

I also have Frankenstein's Army set to record. Do you happen to know when or on what channel Would You Rather will be airing? I did a search on the guide and came up empty.

As much I LOVE these theme nights, I usually don't get a chance to really get involved in them. With that said, these currently un-chosen themes are the ones that I could probably attempt to do (mainly because I plan to watch some of these anyway), therefore I am voting for them here:

Horror Films with Original Songs (films with songs written and performed for the film - Think Alice Cooper's "He's Back" (The Man Behind the Mask) from F13 Part 6)
http://letterboxd.com/holliehorror/l...-films/detail/

Public Domain Horrors (Nobody will have problems finding titles for that day)
http://www.imdb.com/list/ls002037865...=listorian:asc

50th Anniversary of 1964 (possible paired up with 1989 (25th) for another 'Chronological Horror Years Faceoff')
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?at=...year=1964,1964

Pointing out that there is a twist ending kind of defeats the purpose of having a twist ending so I vote against this theme night:

Twist Endings

... but that's just me.

I taped it last month on one of the cinemax channels. Doesn't look like it's coming back on this month, but it might be back in Oct.
