I actually purchased a coffee maker specifically for this challenge. I've never owned one prior to last week. I have a fondness for energy drinks, but 31 days of them leaves me broke. Coffee will be a much cheaper alternative for me.

For me, it's all about the power of suggestion. Living in an older apartment building with two cats (one who loves to climb on stuff), odd and unexplained sounds are a part of everyday life. However, during the witching hour, October, or the night after watching a scary movie, I'm convinced something is up. I can work myself up into quite a little frenzy.
This is one of the reasons I had to stop reading true crime books. I remember one particularly bad couple of days when I was sixteen after binge reading books about the Zodiac killer; every shadow was the lurking killer, poised to gut me. It all seems silly the next day when the sun is out!
However, I'm also a fan of H.P. Lovecraft (check out awesome quote on my list) so I also know that it is quite possible evil forces are out there, but I will myself not to make those connections and comprehend the horror out there. (spooky)

oooooOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOooooo!!
Just FYI, all the links in the Joe Bob Briggs Monstervision section on page 1 are broken.

DISCLAIMER! Of course I wouldn't recommend this if you're not a hot pepper consumer as it can lead to diarrhea and irritate stomach ulcers as mentioned in this article.

I don't drink coffee or any energy drinks, staying awake is toughhh. I'm probably attending an all-nighter next month and I have no idea how to keep myself awake, haha. Even last year, I had to have a decent sleep every night. I need my sleep.

I usually put a dash of ground cayenne in every cup of coffee for extra added pep.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I've been watching some horror in the last few days. I'm also not ashamed to admit that I'll be glad to get off work in 6 minutes so I can get home and finish the last 10 minutes of Baron Blood.
I also just discovered yesterday that Svengoolie airs on Saturday nights on one of the new channels I get by dropping cable and switching to an OTA HD antenna.

I'm looking extremely forward to kicking things off next week. Already planning to see Insidious 2 at the theater early in the week. Is it just me or does it seem like a serious lack of horror at the movies being released in October?

Weeks ago I started watching unwatched(somewhere over 6,000) things on my shelves, just going in alphabetical order. I'll probably keep doing that, only skipping the non-horror items and not even touching anything in binders until I watch everything on the shelves first.
This coincides with the massive cleanup of my theater room, which still had boxes of stuff from when I moved in around 5 years ago. Putting together numerous shelves which had been purchased over a year ago, I set those up in the hallway and filled those with the kid stuff That let me take 3 shelves out of the theater room.
After getting things organized alphabetically, I spent the next couple weekends changing how I wanted to order stuff before finally being satisfied. I've mixed in my DVDs and blu-rays together. The next section is the few distributors or companies that I collect and have no problem blind buying from(Full Moon, Mill Creek, Brentwood, and Something Weird Video). After that is the TV section, including made for TV movies and season sets.
I've shifted all my seating around and raised my projector so you can move and sit more freely without worrying about a head or a cat casting shadows on the screen. I threw up some signed posters that have been sitting around and have been putting up more posters, trying to cover the walls of the A-frame. I also moved my scary dolls and toys, as my kids put it, more organized and not looking so cluttered. Basically it was a huge, late spring cleaning event.
I still have some rope lights I want to setup but I'm finally pretty happy with how it's turning out.
Like last year, with more time spent in the room, we're hearing more noises. A couple weekends ago it sounded like some cable was being played with by a cat behind a shelf and scraping along the back. My oldest daughter was in there at the time and blamed it on one of the cats but when I went to check, there was no cat there and one had only just walked into the room right before I went to check.
Now we're at a point where my wife won't go in there anymore. Nobody goes in there by themselves, including me, but it's already been that way for years. That way when stuff happens there's always someone else there as a witness.
A few weeks before that, I heard the sound of a little kid running around downstairs. Problem was that it was 5am and the little kid that runs was sleeping in bed next to me. He's the one that does that and makes that exact sound and it definitely wasn't one of the cats.

This year I plan to *finally* watch the Universal Horror films in release order. I've said that for several years but I'm determined to actually do it this time.
I've limited myself on horror purchases to help but there are still 50 or more unopened horror films left over from prior years plus a few new ones I couldn't resist picking up since last October. Now I just have to make it through October without caving and making any horror film purchases... I can do it... It'll be easy...

Just realized The Killer Condom is streaming on Vimeo:
Having never seen it I'm gonna make the assumption that it makes a great companion to Killer Tongue, and goes perfectly with the Crazy/Psychotronic day.
Doh. And I just added a few of those.
Updated and they've shrunk from 11 down to 3 episodes: Howling III, Ghoulies II and The Funhouse.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I started that cumulative list of the movies I've watched a couple years ago, mostly to help remind me what I'd watched during previous challenges so I wouldn't have too many repeat viewings. Since I had it, I included it with my challenge lists so I can keep track of when I hit 1000 different movies watched.
Post/list
The good/cool news: I had no idea that I had reached a thousand movies right on the dot.
The bad news: I AM NOT getting back in there to re-arrange the numbering in alphabetical order when challenge '13 ends. Funk that!!!!

Congrats on hitting 1000! (That was over all 8 years, right?) I should hit it by the third week in Oct., I think, then I might re-watch a few old favorites (I'll see how it goes).Anyone else crazy enough to make a cumulative list?

Any other fun little list ideas to pass the time while waiting for the challenge? I spent hours last night working on my list post just for the hell of it with limited resources, never knew simple coding could be so time consuming (I applaud those that work extra hard on their lists) but it was a good tool in passing the time while anxious for the challenge to start.

I'm kinda crazy for spreadsheets and keep a detailed spreadsheet of everything I've ever seen. If I just go by what is marked as 'horror' on IMDb, this is a list of all the horror films I've seen:
Spreadsheets are the best *sigh* . Worth the effort for fun stats :P
