If anyone wants some fun cheesy family horror, the Goosebumps TV series is worth a look. I always enjoy watching some during the challenge (or any other time of year)

Sure. I could switch it with Horror Comedies (10/11), which is also on a Friday. Or possibly Body Horror (10/19). One of the two.

Or Are You Afraid of the Dark, which is on Amazon Prime. And with Goosebumps on Netflix, one could do some serious damage on kid's and tv shows with these two.

Free streaming w/ Prime? Because if so... my social life just took a major hit.

I honestly don't recall. But I know Treehouse of Horror and Community, for example, are favs for the Halloween watching. But the theme is central to Halloween and usually have an element of horror as well. Of course watching Halloween Chopped or Martha Stewart is a whole 'nother level (both of which I've WC'd in the past... but I felt so wrong and dirty doing so...).

I may be able to stream after all. While I was unable to upgrade my data limit on the wireless service I have now as I had the biggest plan. I ordered a plan from another carrier. Two plans is not going to cost anymore than it would have had I been able to upgrade my plan.

If people start looking for what fits Halloween, well then we could start ending up with a lot of Wizard of Oz and Superman (for the Halloween costumes) and a heck of a lot of Doctor Who (because I was Tom Baker like three Halloweens in a row). We can find a little Halloween in just about everything if we look hard enough.
Those last three would be daft by anyone's estimation. But "set at Halloween" or "a Halloween Special" are surely somewhat acceptable even if they aren't as horrific as some might expect. I'm hoping to be able to watch some "family friendly" things even on days that don't have it as the main theme, because otherwise - when I'm watching neighbours' children, etc. - I won't have as much time free to watch anything.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I've been AWOL lately (mainly due to life and work craziness), but if there are still volunteers needed for the Film Subset, count me in.

We're trekking the fam out to Disney World/Universal Studios next month so I won't get a ton of viewing in, but I'll be loading my iPad with horror to watch when my driving "shift" is over.

Do I get points for visiting haunted rides such as Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror, and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal?

Definitely.

I've been getting too excited about this challenge lately. Decided to take a peek back at the first challenges, and it's crazy to see how things have changed.

The very first challenge was announced only 2 days before October... could you even imagine that happening now?

^ I really like how the lists have evolved. I thought I was cool for putting a "banner" at the top of my list back then.

Just look over this post with the current picks and throw out a few of your own for themes that haven't already been covered. It's almost pointless to assign themes since it would limit your suggestions and most are interchangeable with several of them anyway.

Speaking of which, I'm really looking forward to the illegally shot at Disneyland/World Escape from Tomorrow:

<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/1nfU_5NWBoE?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/1nfU_5NWBoE?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

I was considering making this a subset pick, but nixed that idea since there's always the chance Disney will have it pulled and it's only a VOD and limited theatrical release.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Here are some of my subset recommendations...

Farmhouse (horror harvest) - YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFogHuFQUOw

Dead Heat (1988, horror comedy) - Netflix Streaming: http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/De...?trkid=2361637

Brain Damage (1988, horror comedy) - YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrBWbX36_eY

A Haunting In Connecticut (2002) is a personal favorite made-for-tv horror movie (stand alone TV series pilot) based on a true story that I would recommend and fits several subset themes but I can't find it streaming or easily accessible.

I second the earlier pick of It Came From Beneath the Sea for Aquatic Horror, but I may be biased as I have easy access to it, owning it on DVD, and loving all of Harryhausen's work.

No giant-creature theme this year, correct? If so, I can quickly get Godzilla/King Ghidorah off the DVR this weekend.

SURELY there's a way that we can squeeze LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH in here somewhere. It's on YouTube, and it's very, very special.

A couple subset suggestions:

Slashers - Sleepaway Camp (1983) - Youtube (can't believe we haven't done this one yet!)

Evil Families - Blood Diner (1987) - Youtube

Haunted House - House on Haunted Hill (1959) - Netflix and Youtube

I watched it a couple of years ago for the challenge, expecting very little from a forgotten drive-in film, and I was completely floored by it. It's a lost gem with a terrific performance by Zohra Lampert. I'm not generally a fan of the is-she-crazy-or-is-this-for-real? style of horror, but Let's Scare Jessica to Death is one of the best horror films of the 70s.

I second SLEEPAWAY CAMP, and raise your evil families to another I can't believe we haven't done yet, the original THE HILLS HAVE EYES.

I sure would love to see THE UNINVITED for the ghost/haunted house theme, but it's not being released until the 22nd, and TCM isn't showing it this year.
