Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (Oct 1-31) P

I've been enjoying reading the discussion threads even though I haven't had much time to post, it's hard just getting time to watch movies this year. But I did want to say that I finally got to watch Drag me to Hell and I loved it. I gave it 5/5 but maybe closer to 4.5/5 since I didn't think the ending was great.

A few others I've seen so far and would recommend:
Zombieland (2009) - Didn't know what to expect from it, turned out to be a very fun zombie flick.

Some 1950's horror films can bomb when it comes to story I found both these to be excellent:
Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958)
Tarantula (1955)

And not as good but it did have very nice effects done by the same guy that did King Kong's:
The Black Scorpion (1957)

I'v managed to avoid Blair Witch so far. It just has never looked remotely interesting. I'd narrowed it down to Cloverfield and Trollhunter for the "found footage" category. Every site I looked at ranked Trollhunter higher than Cloverfield but Cloverfield won simply due to it being much less expensive at amazon MP ($3 shipped for a very good used copy). Trollhunter is on my wish list and will be purchased as soon as a sub-$5 copy (my limit for most films these days) becomes available.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (Oct 1-31) P

I was out of the country when Blair Witch was doing all it's initial advertising, trying to make it look like it was a true story but I did make it back when it was at the theater. We went and saw it and one person in the crowd said what a lot of us were thinking, "That's it?"

One person in our group got motion sickness and had went to the bathroom.

Everyone in the film was just whiny and unlikable with dashes of stupidity. Same recipe for Cloverfield and for the beginning of Trollhunter, before it starts rolling.

I guess I do like [REC] but I also worked on newscasts and the stuff at the beginning was retarded and not how we really did any of that stuff.

i bought boogeyman 1 and 2 awile ago at biglots and avoided the sequel like the plague after the crappy first one but finally broke down and watched 2 and really enjoyed it nothing like the original.

also watched notld rifftrax which was alot of fun, violent shit 1, and 1408 (really wanted to stop it after the "first ending" and feel the last hour kills the film's pace.

I just watched Stake Land and thought it was fantastic. Why the hell haven't I heard more about this one? Was it even in theaters?

It was like Zombieland's older, smarter, more mature brother. It was everything I wanted Zombieland to be...and I really liked Zombieland. It actually reminded me of Testament. It doesn't show you how things got the way they are but shows you a small group dealing with the aftermath. Very downbeat but instills hope at the same time.

Loved this movie. Sequel...pretty please!

I'll second that on boogeyman 2. My TiVo recorded it and it was surprisingly good.

Definitely starting to understand more of what other were talking about here.

Haven't watched a film in 2 days for the Challenge and when I did today? I fell asleep during it

Now that I don't have a checklist to do, I've spent the last 45 minutes trying to figure out what to watch.

I'm closing in on my checklist, but I've been putting off the Jean Rollin film. Anyone care to recommend one?

Nicely done. Your odds of winning a prize are currently at 100%.

They're just temporarily misplaced.

Lips of Blood or the subset choice The Grapes of Death.

Sure did enjoy watching Dark Night of the Scarecrow again tonight. I just couldn't be happier with the quality of the blu ray. I look forward to watching it in October horror challenges for years to come.

If you haven't seen it yet I recommend at least giving Blair Witch Project. Even on repeat viewings I find it genuinely scary. When it came out all the local theaters were sold out so me and a friend took a 2 hour road trip; the whole way back home I was checking the backseat. It's not for everyone but BWP gets under my skin.

Congrats. I don't think I will actually finish it until pretty late in the month because some of the films I have set aside for theme nights will fulfill a few of them. Plus, I'm trying to put some extra effort right now into the daily film. Wow, lots of stuff still to watch!

The Blair Witch Project is one of my favorite horror films. It does a masterful job of building and building a sense of dread and fear. The last few minutes are creepy as hell.

Hit 25 films tonight. I think that is pretty good considering I missed out pretty much the entire first week.

Wow, I haven't been able to watch anything in 2 days. I have some catching up to do...

What's the best movie you guys have seen for the challenge this year? Something new for you.
